Rear diff non serviceable?
Hi guys. I have an A8 ss with 30k miles. The rear differential is making a whining while driving and decelerating. I pulled the driveshaft and I can physically grab the yoke and it wobbles and has movement. Same with the stub shafts for the axle shafts. When I looked for gm part numbers to replace the bearings it seems it is only sold as a complete unit? Does anyone have any info on this and what can be done besides swapping out the whole thing?

I’m guessing not since I’m supercharged and my powertrain warranty is voided because of it.

As far as I researched... no, the non-eDiffs are not really serviceable. At least not currently. There are some seals, and I thought one bearing, that was serviceable, but that’s it. I’ll double-check again for you.

Rear diff is serviced as an assembly. Only thing that is serviced are the housing bushings, driveshaft companion flange, axle shaft seals and pinion seal.
The e-diff is basically the same case, except the clutches are serviceable*. *Interesting point is that there is a clutch filter in the e-diff clutch actuator that is serviceable. |
