Having owned an SS 1LE and a ZL1 1LE, I'd say get the SS 1LE.

I'm not happy with my alcantara wheel. I would have preferred leather.

I think you just kinda get use to what ever horsepower you have. I thought my 1979 Corvette was fast, then my 87 Iroc, I still have my C5 and C6 Z06’s that I thought and still think are pretty fast and then I bought my ZLE Camaro and to be honest I’m looking forward to my warranty expiring in 2 years so I can add some more HP to it. In my opinion it’s hard to have too much HP when it’s done right.

If Chevy would have made a ZL1 with leather instead of alcantara, they couldn't have taken my money fast enough. Went with leather in the LT1 and I'm glad I did every time I drive it.

I love the alcantara in my ZLE and I prefer it over leather. I would definitely check any used alcantara because a lot of people are slobs and they don't take good care of it. I pulled in an Autozone yesterday and a guy was eating his cheeseburger at the wheel in his Camaro. A part of me died.

It's the easy power that people like. You just have to tap the gas and go as opposed to wringing out the car, not that 450 horses on the SS is low. Going WOT for a few seconds is so fun too when you look in your rear view mirror and other cars are so far back. You have to be careful though because I did a few of those over the weekends and I was 30+ over the speed limit. We have parkways that has 55-65 mph speed limit, so it's like driving on the highway except you hope for some red lights so you can go WOT a bunch of times from a dig and not have to ease up on the gas sooner like on regular roads. Having high torque is also nice because it gives you more sense of fast speed. I used to have an E46 M3 with 333 hp. Don't let the low horses fool you; that car is fast when you wring it out at 8000 rpm. It's jail time after a few seconds on the street, but it's just not as satisfying as tapping 650hp/650lb-ft. It's just different. I enjoy both but having easy power down low is nicer sometimes. |

The SS1LE its an amazing handling car but if you like fast HP cars, the ZL1 is a beast of a car, probably you would get more joy of them if you track them. If its only a car for street and road spirited driving a Camaro SS would provide you with enough juice for your DD joy with less expenses in consumables like tires and brake pads. If you want to get the best Camaro, get the ZL1, if you are worried for the warranty of a used car, just get a certified car and if you want get an extended warranty. Hope that you don’t get the SS1LE and later ask yourself why you didn't get the powerful ZL1. Test drive the 3 and decide which one is better for you.

MY View
OK I too as well have owned BOTH a ZL1 1LE and a SS 1LE and in my cars CURRENT state my SS 1lE is by far much more desirable. I use my car as a daily driver and I track the car 2-3 times a month.
My Zl1 1LE rode like an absolute DUMP TRUCK primariiy because the suspension is COMPLETELY unforgiving. The MAIN reason for that is the spring rates on a ZL1 1LE are EXTREMELY high as in 1400 pound rate for the rears as an example. My SS 1LE is 300 pounds LIGHTER than my Zl1 1LE and currently has MORE power than my Zl1 1LE had with better handling than my ZL1 1LE, My SS 1LE has NEVER gone in reduced power mode with reduced timing due to elevated IATS and this is even during intense 30 minute track sessions. If you were using your car strictly as daily driver and just occasionally taking it to the track then a ZL1 WITHOUT the 1LE package might be considered over an SS 1LE. Magnaride suspension on a ZL1 makes an awesome daily driver. On a road course however a STOCK SS 1LE will be faster than a stock ZL1 without the 1LE package. IN a PURE Drag race, the Zl1 is obviously faster than its stock SS1lE counterpart.

Stock ss1le faster than a ZL1 on road course? That’s news to me. I know they are close. I’d be willing to bet someone out there disagrees
