Just got Nitto 555rII on rear...not impressed

Zero traction in 1st and most of 2nd.
It was a bit chilly (34 degrees F)
Mickey Thompson's hooked 10x better

These Nittos feel more like street tires

  • 34F is probably too cold to give them a fair assessment, and/or they probably need a proper burnout to warm them up.
  • New tires often have a lot of mold release compound still on the tread surface.
  • Some new tires need to be scrubbed in and/or heat cycled to reach full grip capability.

Just put on Mickey Thompson ET Street SS's (305/45/17), still some spin in 1st but 2nd hooks. This is around 40 degrees F and still aired up to 30 psi. What size tire are you running?

That's because the 555rII is a street tire. You needed a NT05R if you want a comparable tire to the MT. Either way the MT is the better tire though.

34 degrees is pretty cold to be testing a drag radial as Msquared alluded to (unless you did a good burnout to get the tire temp up).

Not my favorite tire from a dig. R888R’s, NT-O5’s and NT-01’s in that order.

To be fair, 34* is pretty cold reguardless of tire.

That being said, the MT is a better tire all around. If you were going nitto, as stated above, the nt05/r is a more comparable tire. But again, as someone who had a set of MT street ss's before I switched to the oem sc3s for track use, those mt's are a hell of a tire. I'm debating in getting another set of rear wheels just to put some mt's back on the rear when I'm not tracking the car. I love the sc3s for track, but on the street, they suck. Lol

34* is entirely way too cold for any tire on the street unless you have 250 hp

Very good responses
I did not know alot of these things

I have had 888r's, NT05R, NT555R and MT ET S/S
The 888r's had ridiculous grip in 1st
NT05R and MT ET S/S were a close 2nd

I hope I can get 15k miles out of the 555RII as well as confidence in the rain

My Bridgestone S007s suck anyway, but anything below 65 degrees and I'm all over the road. Even got sideways in 4th with the trac light flashing in like 52 degrees.
