ACS side skirts issue

Anyone had this happen to their ACS side skirts?

This is what happened to my track friend with an SS 1LE.
Apparently debris damaged the rear ends from the inside, punching the ends open on both sides of the car at the rear (the skirts are hollow on the inside).

Interested, as i have them on my car...

Thanks!

Looks like it's time to fill them with spray foam and glass in new caps. I will be getting actual ZL1 side skirts which are plastic as far as I can tell, here's hoping they don't break like that.

Right! That's exactly the thought i had about mine, which are still quite new: fill the ends with foam, or some type of another filler and slope it out at the ends (so any debris exits the skirt before hitting the end of it).

That had to have been something big to do damage like that.

Yeah I've considered filling mine with expandable foam. Would have been much easier to do BEFORE installation though!

That seems like bad luck though, a decent sized rock would be required to do that. And on both sides? Wow...

Yep, mine are on the car already...I am thinking maybe some epoxy perhaps just filling a few inches at the very ends, sloped so anything traveling inside there exits before hitting the ends?

I gather it happened over time. Perhaps a gravel road is involved? Will be back here with updates on that.

Cheers!

Not to hijack the thread, but how much protection do these provide for the area in front of the rear tires? My car looks like it's been sandblasted in this area. I was thinking of getting the OEM ZL1 side skirts and covering them, or at least the rear portion that extends up the quarter with protective film. I need to paint mine anyway, so I figure I may as well install the ZL1 parts if they provide an appreciable amount of added protection.

Thus far (5 track days and 5k miles DD) i got virtually zero crap on rear panels, unlike on my 17, which would get absolutely blasted there. So very happy with their effectiveness re protection. Also, zero crap on lower rockers and doors.

It seems a lot better vs w/o.

Mine were also sandblasted, I replaced the PPF in that area after a year and the new PPF only has a few marks on it. I'd still use PPF in front of the rear wheels, but now it should last longer than a year!

I was looking into the stock ones but ACS is a little less $ and I wanted them in a flat black to match the other 1LE parts, the stock ZL1s are Mosaic Black AFAIK.

Yep the ASC look good and do an excellent job imo to the point of me foregoing any additional expel on rear quarters (or anywhere else for that matter).

Btw ive just confirmed my friends issue was from track debris. His car has never been on any side road apparently. They held up for 2 yrs. Looking at mine, there are already slight marks on the inside of the ends.
So maybe i will stick metal brackets in there to protect them from being damaged.

Mine are working great for side protection. I get hardly any marks from track days

Thanks a lot guys! Y'all have convinced me to add some side skirts, and I believe I will stick with my original plan and go with the OEM ZL1 pieces. I know the front requires a little massaging to fit on an SS, but, based on other posts, this doesn't seem like a big deal. Since the paint on my original skirts is beyond salvaging, the cost to go with the factory parts should be pretty close to going aftermarket and painting the originals

As functional as these appear to be, it looks like they would be original equipment on 1LEs
