Does your Camaro …

Hi all,

I am starting to think I got a Friday evening Camaro. I’ve had a few issues that apparently aren’t common. (Paint flaking in the trunk, misaligned doors, airbag issues, knee pad issues)

There are a few things I’ve noticed that I’m not sure are normal and wanted to poll other owners. It’s going to the dealer this week for the airbag might as well have em check out all the issues.

1. Creak/ squeak from the shifter when cold. This morning it was about 45 putting the car into first made a squeaking noise like pushing through an old busshing that hasn’t been lubed recently. It goes away as the car reaches temp. I admit this could just be tolerances but I’ve owned a few manual cars and this is the only one that does it.

2. Surging at 1500-2200 rpm on light throttle. Sometimes when lightly accelerating the car just doesn’t feel smooth. It surges just a bit off and on. Doesn’t do it every time that I can tell. Typically only noticeable in first and second. I get this could be normal with the engine changing cam timing or anything really but it’s obvious enough that I feel I should ask.

3. Rattle in the rear deck with windows down. There is a certain orientation of the windows that just rattled the heck out of the rear deck sounds like a missing clip and the pressure is just vibrating the deck trim up and down. It’s pretty loud. If it’s normal I’ll just add some dynamat and deal. If it’s not … I’ve only had the car for 3k miles so I figure some of y’all must have experienced this if it’s normal.

4. I’m betting this is just the clutch being normal on a 400hp car but …. When I let out on the clutch the car shudders ever so slightly like the clutch is grabbing and releasing. My mustang sort of did this, but it also exploded the clutch at 6k miles so who knows. My vw products never have but they all made less power.

Again most of this is stuff I can tolerate if it’s normal, but recent experiences have me questioning everything.

Hey I’ve got 7k miles to go might still happen.

Also my mustang exploded its clutch at 6 on stock power, then developed a rod knock at 7 before I got rid of it.

Worth noting I’ve only had these types of issues with American cars. I’ve owned two brand new Vw’s my GTi being heavily modified, and never had an issue out of em. I also drove them harder than I drive my American stuff. Used cars are the same way. Not crapping on American cars, just saying it’s not me just beating the heck out of whatever I drive.

V6's more reliable? 21k miles in 11 months not 1 problem.

I'm at 7k miles on my '21 M6 LT1. Bought it Sep 4, 2021. So far so good. Haven't noticed any of the problems you mentioned.

Clutch chatter is normal. I have a 16 SS M6 with none of the other issues you mentioned though ~ 24k miles.

If you give the car a little bit more gas when you let the clutch you shouldn’t get that little shudder.

4K on my 2020 m6 LT1. Zero defects (so far).the dual disk clutch has been run in the 1/4 about 20 times.

On my 2016 M6 2SS I ran at least 100+ times with 460+ to the wheels on drag radials. That Camaro and my A10 ZL1 also showed zero defects. But of course I have not kept Camaros long until my LT1. Bury me in it.

I love my Camaro but they aren't perfect. My current 20 LT1 is my second 6th gen. Both had a few minor issues with trim alignment. 2nd gear on the LT1 is rough when cold. Sometimes a bit of clutch chatter. The front rotors warped without any hard use. Sometimes will sense the engine lightly surging like you mention when cold. Fortunately nothing major though and relatively speaking nothing I'm concerned about. I bought a 2018 911 Carrera brand new that had some of the same minor issues - no car is perfect (that I've found yet).

I think OP is asking for guidance, help or if someone has had similar problems, not if you have 0 issues.

OP the clutch squeaking is common I believe until the trans gets up to temp, shifting to 2nd when cold has to be surgeon precise for me otherwise I get a jump.

I also experience rattle by the rear deck but I believe it's subwoofer related, haven't really gotten to fix it because it's intermittent and not all the time, I presume it's some wire or something jumping around.

The shudder with the clutch... I believe you need to find a better seating position since there is a dead end on the clutch travel, I stopped experiencing this this when I moved my seat reeeeeally far back (I like it and it's easier on the throttle) or when I somehow have someone in the back and I'm pushed far forwards, somehow, being in-between meant I couldn't really get a correct foot-hand coordination when shifting and a bad shift would result in a hit most of the time and shudder on the minority, make sure it's also a smooth, fast but not quick motion and learn about the dead end, I don't push the clutch all the way in now and it's been going great for me.

I get similar surge in the first minute after cold start, but not after that. Pedal feels a tad unresponsive, then she gooses. After that though, it's gone. Or if I let it warm a second, it doesn't happen.
