Moved to gen auto. Just a reminder, if it doesn't involve the Chevy Camaro vs something, it doesn't belong in Chevy Camaro vs ...

Anyway, I fail to see how two differently modified cars has much to do with a discussion about the stock performance of either (which is what the original discussion was about).

Stock for stock, the GT was barely ahead of the Z06 and 500 hp Viper. It isn't really a contest against the newer ZR1 or ACR Viper.

I wish Ford would have kept it around. I am sure they would have made it comparable to the ZR1 and ACR. But such is life.

The Ford GT is the ultimate newer american car collectible.

Collector status usually takes decades, not a few years.

Yea that is what I meant. You bought it new and 30 years down the road it would be worth a shit ton.

Hell you are going to pay significantly more than MSRP for one if you wanted one today.

Still the only American car to win the Le Mans 24 Hours.

And finished 1, 2, 3. And it kicked so much ass they created rules aimed at slowing it down.

Unless its exclusive and limited production of only a few years. The GT went up in value right after it went out of production. Just like the Enzo's and other exotics which is exactly what the GT is. If the GT was still in production it wouldnt be a collector.

The comparison a few years ago, when the Gt came out was against a Z06 and a few other imports. The Z06 kicked ass on almost all of the areas. So the Zr1 should be even better. so what is to compare? The Ford GT still wins when it comes to LOOKS though. One of my favorite cars.

That depends on what year the GT went out of production.

A stock Ford GT will pull on a stock ZO6 above 100mph

20 years ago, people thought the exact same thing about the Viper. But now the first ones are worth around half of what they were when they were new. Thats pretty good for a 20 year old car, don't get me wrong. But it hasn't gone up in value like people were expecting.

On top of that, those who buy a new car and store it, expecting it to go up in value need pay for insurance (even if it is just fire and theft) and usually storage fee's as well. Add it up over 20 years and a total investment might work out to a 50% loss, if you're lucky. A real investment over the same time should at least double, probably triple your money.
