So if we are talking rare then how about a 2015 ZL1 Camaro. Total production on those cars were 1561 in 2015. Cars with auto trans were 897 standard trans was 953. I understand the 15 models with recaro's is even more rare. So I have a 2015 ZL1 with the auto trans, recaro seats and a moon roof so I guess this falls into rare or not?

Actually it does, but IMHO, we are not talking about Rare Cars

At one point it did. But now unless whatever you are talking about is extremely rare (and nothing mentioned in this thread would fall into that category), there's little "value" for marginal rarity because whatever you are looking for is just a click away on a google search, fleabay, etc.

No Gen 5 or 6 is rare or valuable. There are 10,00s if not 100,000s of them with varying option packages.

Show me a car model with less than 1000 total vehicles, that is rare and potentially valuable.

Deep Magenta was the rarest 5th gen color with under 1,000 units sold. However, it's not all that valuable. If anything the color could hurt its resale as most people see it as a pink Camaro. To find one that's a SS manual is a truly rare car. As for special editions, '13 Hotwheels SS convertible 6 speed is a rare bird with 56 of them being made. I drove a friend's after he traded it to a dealer. Nothing special other than the collector edition of it. I was tempted to pick it up for the rare factor, but decided against it.

They are all JUST Camaros with different options.

They probably said that too in 1969.

Exactly. I'm not sure if they will be as collectible as a 1969, but I imagine the 5th gen will be probably the second most desirable generation overall. Of course others will have their favorites, but it seems that the retro classic style keeps more people coming towards the 5th gen for modern Camaros.

Mine was....rare....not necessarily valuable. 255 produced.

My 2013 ZL1 vert was 1 of 54. That rarity got me a value of 50% of MSRP when I traded it after 4.5 years and 19k miles.

Another rare car I owned was a 2001 Trans Am Ram Air convertible with all of the performance options. Again. It was worthless at sell time. I like these cars and always have. I may look back in a few years and wish I still had some of them. I doubt it, I like what I like now. When I grow bored with it I move on. Though I have to say the SS and the ZLE fit the bil of what I always wanted pretty well. I can cruise in a comfortable but confident cruiser or I can scare those around me with the ZLE. Best of both worlds. Seriously if you haven't sampled an SS you are missing arguably the best sport sedan ever built. It is better than the declared pinnacle of sport sedans the E39 M5. Which is a brilliant car BTW.

EDIT. I never sought those cars out as rare, I learned of it after I owned them. The SS I did know about because go try to buy one. They are a bit tough to find unless you don't mind crossing the country

There are so many factors in this...

What car it is
What options
What the market wants
The timing of the sale
The condition of the car
The availability of similar cars
Economic conditions

It's like trying to time the stock market....

Unfortunately no one really desires ANY car from the Malaise era (1974-85). They were so bogged down with emission controls and a billion miles of vacuum lines. If your ‘77 Z28 was kept in a climate controlled garage, driven just a couple times a month to keep it circulated properly, had 4000 original miles and the window sticker still on the window and factory plastic protectant seat coverings it might be worth $15,000. You get two guys who really want it at Barrett-Jackson even then the bids won’t go past $20k. That same Camaro 7 years older equipped exactly the same could hit $50k+. Better performance, more racing/sporting pedigree, more highly regarded by enthusiasts.

Some 4th gens are going up in value but those are usually the SS/SLPs with extremely low mileage. Your run of the mill Z28s aren’t that vauable.

Few of any 3rd gens have reached collector status. They were really cheaply built. MUCH Better performance than the Malaise era 2nd gen once they got fuel injection but horrible rattle boxes even when new.

The only modern Camaro that’s really collectible right now is the 5th gen Z28. Low production and built with a hard core track purpose (no sound deadeding/insulation, no trunk lining, thinner glass, A/C optional)
