Swap cracked head unit

I have a cracked touch screen unit. Dealership quoted me about $500 for a new replacement. I have found a used head unit from a similar 2017 camaro SS for half the price.

How easy is the swap? I'm a little worried about there being some type of anti-theft lockout on this head unit that will have my car rejecting the transplant.

Sorry if there's already a thread on this. I did a search but came up with nothing. Thanks ahead of time, fam.

Hey Chris_SS, I read right over that question. Here’s information on that too.

Thanks again, Trochoidal. This is exactly the type of resource I was scouring the web for.

Looks like it's a no-go as far as a simple "plug and play" swap is concerned, as the 2017 Camaro is part of the Global A platform.

I emailed my dealership to see if there's anything that can be done to enable the swap. My intuition tells me that they will have no idea if it is possible and if so, how to do it. They'll just tell me to get a new unit. But...you never know.

You can try Chris at WhiteAutoMedia and Services, he’ll probably be able to do it but no idea on if it’s significantly cheaper or the same
