Single Turbo Kit - LT1

Is this even a thing? I have seen a few 1LE's & SS's running around with custom turbo kits, but I have not come across any tested kits with definite numbers. I know Hellion has a TT kit, I am looking for a big ole single turbo.

I think it has been discussed before, and from what I recall a single turbo sized appropriately for this size engine is just too big to fit anywhere under the hood, that is why the TT setup is much more favorable. Unless you are going Cleetus style and having a large single turbo stick up thru the hood, then TT is the way to go.

I follow a guy @ghost_1le on instagram & he somehow fit one turbo under the hood without any modification as far as I know. I dm'd him & never got a response lol.

The problem if you can figure out all the fitment issues is the downpipe size. Most can only fit a 3” if they want it to exit the rear of the vehicle. So you run into backpressure issues.

Twins fit nice. Typically you choose single vs twins based on what fits.

I’ve mentioned it before but, I don’t think folks recall. There’s a company called Mirror Image Autoparts that makes a single turbo kit for our cars. They have a Facebook page where their first video you see on their page is a single turbo kit running on a 6th gen.

There are a lot of companies out there that will build you a custom single turbo setup. But I haven't seen an actual all together kit from anyone except Mirror Image Autoparts as mentioned in the post above. The twin kits are just so damn expensive I decided to do a custom single kit. And I have a 88/96mm turbo so needless to say its going to be quite a task finding room to fit it and still have clearance for any sort of down pipe to the exhaust. I am going to try it and if all else fails I'll run a fender exit, but I am trying NOT to have to do that. I wen't an extra step as well by buying BMR solid motor mounts because they provide a ton more clearance over the stock motor mounts. I just finished building the motor and got it back in the car last weekend. I'll be taking it to the fab shop this week to have some custom turbo manifolds and crossover pipe made. I have a thread on here if you want to follow the progress or checkout my youtube channel Sixgun Sled and I am filming the builds I'm doing.

I can’t see how a custom large single kit wouldn’t cost more than twins and require more compromises. Not much needs moved to make the twins work.

Like the posts above... Mirror Image Auto has the only single turbo kit for sale. They have some awesome options. Check them out! I think they’re based out of GA.

two turbos is usually more expensive than one especially when your doing the kit yourself. Think about it, if your doing 2 turbos you have to have 2 of everything instead of 1. Not to mention paying for 2 turbo's instead of 1.

Normally I would agree with you but to do a decent sized single would be difficult on our cars and twins fit with minimal fuss. That extra work getting a single to fit will eat up any savings of going single.

I would like to see a pic of the mirror image single kit. Maybe it isn’t as difficult as I am thinking.

Just something to consider, GM uses left and right narrow band sensor for individual bank fine tuning.

If a single turbo system is not designed properly the computer gets very unhappy.

A Twin system keeping the banks separate is a far better option on this platform.

Except there is no data, track or dyno. It utilizes a 3” dp which will be a massive back pressure issue on a 6.2l motor.
