Engine Noise

Today I installed my idatalink Maestro, rr2, and Kenwood Excelon DDX396. I followed instructions to the letter and followed YouTube videos as well. Everything works exactly as it should, but there's a lot of engine noise in the line that fluctuates with the throttle. Where should I start in tracking the noise down and eliminating it? Also, I have the Boston system with aftermarket amp. I had zero noise before the upgrade.

Bad ground is more than likely your cause. Does it get more noticeable when the throttle is pressed and then disappears when not on the throttle?

It gets worse with the throttle, but always there. It doesn't goes away. Should I splice in a larger ground wire and attach it? Currently, the only ground is the little black wire in the harness.

Consider tapping that same ground wire and running it to the ground under the radio. That same issue is happening for me. I have ground loop isolators on all of my RCAs right now.

Ok. I'll give that a try.

This is aggravating. I spliced a ground into the harness and attached it to the chassis. Noise still there. I attached a ground wire from the head unit chassis to the same spot on the car chassis and the noise is still loud. I hooked this thing up exactly as the instructions said. What gives??

Your bad ground is probably coming from the amp not the head unit.

I was thinking amp now. Could it be the amp gain is too high now that I went from stock head unit to aftermarket?

I guess I should’ve specified this the first time. I was stating it was form the amp to begin with. Sorry for not specifying. What size ground wire are you running and where are you running it to?

I have 8 gauge running from the amp to the battery. Also, I didn't mention this earlier, but I'm using the FARK setup with this amp ( https://www.skaraudio.com/products/s...-car-amplifier ) I'll also re-iterate I had no noise at all before I swapped the head unit.

So you replaced the amp utilizing the Fark harness with no issues. Then you changed out the head unit and you have engine noise now? You didn’t replace them at the same time?

That said, when I first changed the amp and installed the FARK, I had crazy static. I had to turn the gains way down, so when you mentioned the amp, I thought I may have created too much gain again when I changed the head unit. I apologize if I'm all over the place. I'm not an expert by any means, I'm just able to follow instructions. LOL
