New '19 1ss for sale

I found a new '19 1ss for sale listed at $40889 list price. What would a good offer be to purchase.

The dealer wants me to "come in take a drive" but I've had SS's before and don't want the BS just a price.

What do you think a good offer would be?

Well back in the old days, pre china flu. I would always shoot for 20% off sticker. These days, everything is turned upside down due to the supply being so low out on the lots...... due to production shutdowns.

41k for new 19? Terrible deal.

Is this an LE?

If it's just the standard 1SS then hell no! last Sept one of the dealers here had FOUR left over 2020 1SS sitting on the lots and there was a shortage then too. All autos and all had the NPP. Their price was around 37,000 IIRC. They had the $1000 chevy crappy rebate and also dealer rebate as well.

If it's a standard 2019 1SS I'd offer them $35,000 for it. Been sitting 2 years now. Obviously not in a hurry to dump it.

A few Camaros are being pumped out this week. Come July when it's in production again and 2022 being shipped out eventually dealers will have more and there will be a glut of used ones come Aug when winter is coming. Hold off a few months and get a better deal on the 2ss.

I only said 35k due to the shortage.

Could offer them 33k though. The dealer will likely decline but then in a few months will come running back with a counter offer when the 22s hit the lot.

The shortage is hurting salesmen too. The Chevy dealer by me had hardly any new cars on the lot when I was getting an oil change. Not much work for the sales guys right now in the new dept.

I’m assuming this car hit the lot Q3 / Q4 of 2018, how have they been sitting on a car for almost 3 years lol.

Destination Charge $995.00
Installed Options
Dual-mode exhaust $995.00
20" 5-spoke, Carbon Flash-painted aluminum wheels with summer-only tires $300.00
10-speed paddle shift automatic transmission $1,595.00
MSRP* $40,885.00

I could build a '22 model for $39,785. That is if they were building them now.

From what I've seen this year, that's a little odd that they still have a '19 sitting. Cool though, if you can get a decent deal on it.

I worked at a larger Chevy dealership a zillion years ago as a mechanic, before inventory tracking was as good as it is now, and there were more cars on lots than there are this month. They accidentally "lost" a car in inventory once in a while, if someone moved it to a back lot, or offsite storage, so they would end up with something unsold for too long, until someone specifically wanted to find that particular car.

Maybe this '19 was sitting offsite, forgotten and forlorn until they emptied out the lot. I don't know how dealerships work these days, but back when there were no locator devices or quick barcode scans, we used to have to do some walking to hunt a car down if it needed a trip to the shop for in house option work or small touches before it went to detail/delivery. Sales guys would just leave them wherever.

The problem is supply and demand and they are not building them right now.
If you look at KBB and NADA pricing is high for the used market. People on the forum can talk smack all they want about what they would pay but right now you might find yourself not getting a car at some of the prices I've seen people post. Sooner or later prices will come back down but I wouldn't pull out the price book from before COVID and expect a dealer to rollover and give a cheap price.

I paid 33.6k out the door for my 1ss back in March of 2019. I say 34 would be ideal, but then again with demand/supply being different today than it was in 2019, the dealer may not negotiate much. Back in 2019, the refresh was not doing well so demand was low and supply was high. Now, with the hault of production, the supply curve would be considered low.

Does the build date coincide with the build dates having engine failures? I’d want to be 40k OTD, or less, assuming it has desirable options. Less if it doesn’t. Can build a 22 for under 40k MSRP depending on options, and won’t have 3 years of depreciation. I would want an oil change included as part of the purchase.
