Should I buy a 2016+ 2.0 turbo camaro?
I am in the market for a 2.0 turbo camaro and was wondering if anyone could tell me about any specific problems with the engine or anything with the cars that I should be aware of? I love the idea of owning a camaro with good gas mileage that I can afford but I want to make sure this is a smart purchase before I go through with it. Any info about reliability, good or bad, is greatly appreciated!!!

Either the 2.0T or the V8-if you can afford it. I love the turbo feel. I had a V6 supercharged and I would have done it again to the Camaro, but couldn't do that for a while-wife says. So the turbo has a great "boost" feel much like my supercharged V6 did. You can also upgrade parts cheaper for the 2.0 then the 6 for better bang for your bucks. Just my $.02. Also get a pedal commander, you'll love it.

I'd go for the V6, since they aren't that much more. It sounds much better and the V6 is more reliable than the turbo 4.

If you're keeping the car stock I'd recommend the V6 as well. Only $1500 more and it's a little faster and sounds way better. I'm also willing to bet gas might cost slightly less overall when you factor in 87 vs 93 octane. I'd also trust the GM 3 6 over the turbo 4 for longevity. No wrong answer of course, it's just my opinion

I own the V6 and no mechanical issues as of now. It's a pretty solid engine. Other than the A8 shudder it's been great

That’s good to know, I don’t really know if I’m going v6 or I4 atm lol. The piston breaking issue of the turbo has kind of pushed me toward the v6

The piston breaking at low rpms has been fixed for the newer LTGs. I have a 19 and no problems so far. Pulls harder than the v6 IMO. Plus the aftermarket world, more options on the turbo and you'll get heads turning from the i4. Mine has already pulled a v6 with bolt ons and tune.
Best option for the i4 is the 1LE model. You actually get a lot for the cost and its track ready.

Thanks Dave that’s fantastic info, would a 2016 I4 be safe too?

The piston issue was more of the cadillac ats issue and some 2016 ltg models. I read on here somewhere it was fixed, but I don't know what date to look for. The preventative measure was to use either ac delco full synthetic oil or Mobil 1 gen 2 dexos if I recall correctly (I always trust Mobil 1 full synthetic anyways).
There are some powerful v6's and faster than me, but I will say the i4 turbo does very well with bolt ons and a tune. Mine personally does not have that typical 4 cylinder sound. Very low toned and aggressive.

Well that’s good to know for sure!! I’m just worried about a 2016 lol, I would keep it totally stock, no power adders, so would it hold up like that or is there still a risk of piston breaking?(sorry I’m a bother)

Though I never drove the 2.0, it was on my radar. I believe there are good tunes for it AND it's much lighter weight than the larger-engined models.

So if I kept my 2016 I4 stock it wouldn’t grenade the pistons?
