Arrow Our 2010 SS Blew Up!!

Driving on the I-4 freeway today driving into St.Peterburg,Florida in our 2010 SS I was doing some spirted driving when I would see openings in traffic I heard a unknown metal knock noise and then one or both cylinder head gaskets blew. I could not get over because none of the drives on the I-4 would let us over so I had to keep driving and then our 2010 SS died and would not start back up. I looked at the L99 and I seen motor oil seeping from the side of the passenger side cylinder head and when it cooled down I opened the radiator cap and I seen oil mixed with coolant mess. The L99 is currently at 151K miles. Before about approximately 10K miles about I read the spark plugs and found slightly thick oil residue on the threads of cylinders 1,3,6,7,8. Also found a very small hair line crack on the piston in cylinder #6,excessive wear on the cylinder head valve guides,and excessive oil residue inside the intake manifold. I would notest slight oil burning coming from the exhaust and using some motor oil between oil changes. I cleaned the inside of the intake manifold the best I could and even put everything back together. I am looking for bright ideas for a rebuild on our L99 engine? Opinions? Right now our 2010 SS is dead in the driveway as I had to get it towed obviously.

Use car-part.com and get a low mileage replacement, or tear it down and build it from scratch.

the head casting numbers on the heads on the motor in that picture are 821

821 = hollow intake valves = LS3 heads

I wonder if the later L99's came with them like that

i would go through the stock heads and maybe port them and get a new rotating assembly and go 416

https://www.texas-speed.com/p-1020-t...-assembly.aspx

and talk to GPI about one of their VVT cams for this setup
