I f'ed up

I have been breaking the car in pretty well, I had a few slip ups and floored it, but today, I shifted into second instead of fourth. I immedietly caught it when I was releasing the clutch, but I am worried because the rpms did shoot up to redline. Hopefully it will be okay.

I think you'll be okay.

I get being worried, but these engines are tough. I have accidentally shifted into 3rd instead of 5th and reved up to red line. You'll be fine.

They built the engine from factory stock to run a track for a full tank of gas, including up to redline. There's also a rev limiter to keep us from bending valves and such. I'm sure your fine. Might not be the best idea to intentionally do every day, especially when breaking the motor in, but I doubt once here and there would cause catastrophic damage in any way.

You couldn't hurt it if you tried!!!!! They have gotten so good at building engines and limiting them with Rev controls and fuel shutoffs that you WON'T hurt it. PERIOD!!!!! The guy in the Vid. lost a Tranny, Not a Motor!!!

Then you are good to go.

Rev limiter only effects accelerating rpms, probably by fuel cutoff. When you have a mechanical over rev, like going into the wrong gear, it can be catastrophic. Like others said gm makes some good engines so there is a real good chance you're ok. I guess time will tell.

I'm shocked it took his long for someone to say this. Rev limiters do nothing to protect against over revving on accidental downshifts.
