Anyone running Goodyear s3 305 up front?

I know there has been some discussion about 305 tire on the front rim (some say yes some say no) but I think that was with the mp4s. I know the goodyears are a little wider or at least have a wider contact patch. Anyone know it they will fit and if so how are u liking the setup? I'm only asking cause I can get the 305s for only $25 more a tire. And I have -2.2 camber.

Pretty sure that's a problem with a 20...

No go... at least if you track it. A buddy of mine did exactly that trying to get a bit more life out of his original rear tires and mounted them on the front. Looked like there was enough room even with his -2.6 camber but under a long sustained high speed left hand turn the inner right front rolled enough to contact the strut spring perch and turned it in to a smoke show. Track day ruined. These were almost completely spent tires, new ones with a lot more tread depth and shoulder height would be even worse. He sent me a pic of the tire.

So with a 5mm spacer it should work, or maybe a little more.

That tire looks almost new. Was this on a stock front rim or a different rim?

Tires had 7 hardcore track days on them and they were more than 75% worn, for whatever reason they look a lot better in the picture than they actually are. I looked at them the day after he was there. They were mounted on the stock front wheels with no spacers.

Thanks for sharing also! I just got my 1le and put it to 2.6 neg camber up front and was considering putting the stock rear 305 on the front wheels... Do you think with shaving the strut part that is close to the inner wheel lip and a 5mm spacer I could run the 305/30/20 up front?

The interference with the tire is further up as it actually makes contact with the outer lower edge of the spring perch. There’s no way to modify that area like grinding on the strut tab for wheel clearance. Running a 5mm space would move it out far enough, but then you’re dealing with not enough thread for proper lug purchase. Longer bolts would be needed which negates using them on the front with little hassle. In short, it just doesn’t work on a practical level.

Any pics of the sidewall bulge of the 305 on the 10" rim?

Basically the issue is the 205/30/20 is too tall. With that said I'm very tempted in picking up a set of G3s in the new 19" sizes after I go through my current set of RS4s, the 305/30/19 G3s should work just as good as the RS4s/RE71rs. Of course you have to have some 19" wheels to do that.

I'm pretty sure the grey ZL1 in this video is running 305's up front, just by looking at them -
