My sister's 1970 Green Challenger after HS, 1st and only time over 100MPH. She was soo mad when she came back from Navy overseas & her husband sold it years later.

When I was a Young Navy guy, I hung out with a buddy who's dad owned a Studebaker Dealership. In 1965 he came back frtom leave at home with a 64 Study Grand Tourismo Hawk with the 289 Turbo Motor. There wasn't a car on the base at Naval Airsta Brunswick Me. that he couldn't shame with that thing. First time I ever went over 140 MPH in my 19 years on the planet. I was HOOKED for life. What a MONSTER.

For me it was when I was 6 years old. My uncle had a 1968 AMX with a 360 and 4-speed with Hurst shifter. I can still remember sitting in the passenger seat as he power-shifted it and it chirped the tires all the way to 4th... Still brings a smile to my face.

Somewhere around 1967, I was hitchhiking home (forget from where). Some guy stopped and gave me a pretty good demonstration of what a SS396 Chevelle (4-speed) could do . . .

I was looking to buy a one year old 1974 Camaro Z28 with 3000 miles that was at the local Chevy dealer. I was 19 and never drove that kind of car, so I brought a friend who had owned a couple different muscle cars. I sat in the back seat while both the salesman and my buddy took turns at the wheel. Both of them knew how to drive and both got the car sideways with hard shifts into 3rd gear. The car only had 245 horsepower, but that was plenty to overpower the belted tires.

Needless to say I bought the car. The first of my 4 Camaros.

My cousin Janice was an up and coming career girl in the '60's who burned thru husbands and cars at around the same frequency back in the day. I was 9 or 10 when she dropped by in a brand new, Acapulco blue '69 cobra jet mustang. I still remember her roasting those F60 x 14 goodyears all the way thru 1st and 2nd. I ended up cutting my muscle car teeth on '69 & '70 mustangs. I owned several Boss's and cobra jets in the 80's.
Janice settled down, she's in a 335 Beemer and has been happily married for 30+ years.

Yes I remember my first ride in a muscle car. I built it myself when I was 17-18 one thousand years ago. It was a 1965 white Falcon Futura to which I swapped a top loader 4 speed and a 351 Windsor. At first the rear tires were studded snows which caused launching problems. Later with real tires it was really good at breaking stuff. This felt (as I remember) about as fast as my wife's V6 Accord. Remember when a fast car was 14 seconds in the 1/4? The Accord would have embarrassed most muscle cars back then. My Falcon kept up with and beat some of the bigger boys in those days. Light weight was the key.

Oh man, I have been in so many muscle cars I can't remember my first ride but I can remember a few that stand out. My first car at 16 was an 84 Z28. It was quick for the day and put a smile on my 16 year old face many times. Probably the first time I was "blown away" by how quick something was, was when my brother bought an 87 Buick Grand National brand new and he came by the house and not only took me down the road in it, he let me drive it. To this day, i would love to own one of those cars. I can still remember how that thing felt when that turbo came in. I was like Will Smith in Independence Day "Wooooo, I got to git me one of these!"

I must be a minority here. First time I was ever in any type of RWD muscle car was when I test drove a 04 GTO in college. Ended up buying a sport compact (07 ION redline) instead. Then ten years later finally purchased the 2017 camaro I have now

Yep. My brother had a '65 GTO 389 Tri powerl, a '66 GTO 389 4bbl and a '70 'Cuda 440 4bbl. At the time, all of them were fast AF. I'd bet my '17 V6 Camaro would give the GTO's a run for the money. Not so sure about the 'Cuda.

Yep, a Willow Green 1966 Chevelle SS 396 with a four speed. I was 13. Bought one years later while in college and have regretted selling it ever since . . . that's been a long, long time.
