Should We Cancel Extended Warrenty when Modifying?
General Question.
Could apply to anyone. We pull apart our engines, voiding our power train warranty. Do we keep the extended warranty we purchased just in case something non-related to our mods fails? Radio/Nav unit fries 2 years from now. A/C fails, etc. In my case I purchased 6 year/60,000mile. edit: Purchased FULL GMPP Total 'PLUS' 5years/50K to go..... Thoughts?

Depends on how your extended warranty is written. Mine covers much more than just the power train, so while your PT portion is done, there's still plenty of other unrelated stuff, seats, cushions, the HVAC/Infotainment, paint/body, various aux systems, etc.
Also, depending on the dealer you use, even if you mod your engine and something near it goes, doesn't mean they won't still warranty it out. I had my '10 SS with a maggie, headers, dual fuel system, CAI intake, lowered on full Pedders kit w/ some PFADT stuff, forged wheels, etc... I had a couple times where my A/C pulley had an issue and it was fixed under warranty due to a known issue. The guys in the shop even wrote it up as such listing the mods had 0 involvement in the issue. Now, when the rear main seal went out, I had to pay on some of that because the blower and catch can were easily capable of causing excessive crank case pressure, but that's on me anyways. |

Your Camaro comes with a 5yr 60K powertrain warranty, so when you think about it you are buying a warranty that gives you 1 additional year on powertrain (but no more miles) which is useless if you mod, and 3 additional years and 24K miles on everything else at a cost of how many $$$.
To me I don't think it is worth it. |

Even if not modding I don't buy into extended warranty rip-offs.
Soon as they ask I tell them I'm doing mods right away and the discussion is over. If you can cash it in and get some back I say do it. |
