Black taillights installed question (orange nut/clip)

How do you get these two orange nut/clip things off the inside two threaded poles to remove 2016 break light?

You don't remove them. They will stay in place, just pull the taillight straight back.

Yes! Leave the outer-most orange retention clips there! Just pull the tail lights out with steady, firm pressure. Do not yank them, as you'll risk violently pulling out the tail lights and scratching your paint with the tail light studs.

I meant to do a post the other week too as I couldn't find a DIY that addressed this in detail...

On the outer sides of both of the lights, there are two threaded studs that slip into a pressure clips that are actually installed on the other side of the metal. In other words, they're actually not nuts or clips that you need to unscrew or remove. They are attached to the frame of the vehicle and don't actually come out. This kind of threw me for a loop since the other three nuts come out very easily.

I tried giving the lamp a hard tug as many have mentioned and even saw a YouTube video to the same effect.

I actually found the easiest thing to do was to take a small hammer (or something suitable) and just give a light tap on one of the threaded studs on the tail lamp assembly. It's a tight back there so you'll have to pull back the trunk lining a bit. But once you get one of the studs free, they will actually both release at the same time.

That is honestly the hardest part of the entire tail lamp swap, so congrats and enjoy!

I was confused at first too. What the heck is keeping them on?? One good tug and they come flying off! Be careful when you do because once they let go they LET GO. lol

You're welcome GAHDOOSH, it threw me for a loop at first too. The instructions showed it differently than how it actually works.

That said, Frankn01's suggestion with the hammer would probably give you a more controlled release when they do pop free.

That little clip that the harness is attached to was the hardest part of the install. I thought. This thread helped out fast with the orange fasteners, a small hammer and they bumped right out.
