I stopped reading the moment I read this. Oh boy.

You make it sound like the Camaro is a POS, yet we all know its the best all around pony car and hander in it's class. It also offers the best V8 performance at the lowest cost.

I have no reason to think an electric Camaro will never come. I can see it happening, but this post was a bit much.

I knew these cars were quick, but wow!

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...s-performance/

That being said, I have ZERO interest, even if they were the same price as my ZL1. I could never get my head around the sound and lack of driver involvement.

I would not be surprised if they released an electric powered Camaro. That would be cool. Don't get me wrong, I love the V8 in my SS and I love the character of the car, with this engine. But I'd rather see an electric Camaro than no Camaro at all.

I daily drive a Lexus LS430 with the 4,3L V8 engine. That could just as well be an electric. I can't hear or feel the engine running. It's just quiet and plush. The Lexus LS is a great candidate for an electric drivetrain.

Me neither. BTW, interesting chart in the middle of the article. The Tesla was fast in its first and second 0-60 runs, but the third consecutive one was clocked at slightly below 5 sec, the 6th one at 7 sec, then it practically flatlined at 6 sec.

Never thought I would see the day when companies dictate and force products down our throats that we don't want.

Nothing I want more than a Camaro that humms at wide open throttle. And then takes 30 min to an hour to fill up. Sad.

Again...whats more visceral and gets your attention. An Electric Subway train screeching along the track carrying 1000 patrons or gas powered diesel pulling 100 trains with pure torque sounding like thunder. Which one has the awe factor? Which has the who gives a sh!t factor? I think we all know the answer to that question.

When I fire up my electric I will get out and go to the back and listen ….for the birds to sing and the wind rustling the leaves.

Anyone here actually driven electric on a 1/4mi track...they are quick, but after about the 3rd or 4th run it gets old quick. No connection with the car, feels fake like something is missing.

GM is serious about making EVs, and that's proven by the fact that they're starting by making electric versions of their best-selling and most-polluting vehicles. Their strategy is to appeal to people by making aggressive, luxurious, or highly capable EVs that show how great they can be, rather than making boring cars like the Bolt and wondering why nobody likes EVs. An electric Camaro follows that same bold strategy and, with Al in place, I'm hopeful that it becomes a reality.
I'm afraid you're ignoring the human side to this . . . it's much harder to change certain attitudes and preferences in people with more life experience than yourself than it is to suggest such a major change in the cars you want them (us) to drive. Or understand that change absolutely can mean that something might be taken away that you actively appreciate right now (especially when such MBA-speak buzz-words as "bold strategy" are used).

But most younger people can't fully understand that because it is unlikely that they have actually lived it personally. I was young once, too (these days, it's the grandkids who go to college).

Personally, I don't have a problem with the existence of EVs. But any insistence that all vehicles need to become EV - especially the sporty and overtly fun kind - is a whole 'nother matter. I don't think anybody could build enough performance into an EV Camaro to make me pick it over a 1SS/1LE. Or over the car in my sig, for that matter.

Sort of serious Camaro-specific question . . . would you really want an EV Camaro sports coupe/sports car/ponycar/muscle car to get most of its DNA from an SUV? Economies of scale might have things work out that way, so be careful what you wish for.

Electric cars, to me, have yet to offer a soul, like many of the cars a lot of us like to enjoy. They don't yet have the sound, the smell, the feel, and all the rest that give cars personality. I don't want to hear some artificial engine noise through speakers when go to start my car in the morning. I smile every time it fires up and cackles away. The feel of the body shake as it idles, just teasing me to open the throttle.

Electric cars are tools for regular people who don't give a crap about cars, for the most part. I don't care if it's a Porsche or a Bolt, they are tools. Just because it's crazy fast doesn't give it personality. I hope things turn around for Camaro, and I hope the Pony and Challenger keep-up the competition, but electric doesn't interest me at all. That's why I've been saying this is the last of these kinds of cars...

JMHO...

I won't lie, electric performance is lightyears ahead of ICE. Just by their very nature they're more efficient and have alot less drivetrain loss. Even the weakest of them give the strongest of our ICE a run for their money. I just dont want the Camaro to be remembered as an Electric vehicle...

... that said ... I personally have no issue buying an electric sports car...just not an electric 'Camaro'
