Yes, that will provide enough length to go through the grill. Much easier than opening and closing the hood. Just don't forget it is there before driving away

There is also an opening behind the upper grille next to the headlight housing that will allow the wire to pass thru. I used a fish tape, took 30 secs.

I'll go Glen e's black duct tape one better. I'm going to use these peel off adhesive plastic tie holders:

Not unless you are having hard starts due to a possible parasitic drain. Probably just be a waste of money.

I haven't driven my car in months.

Remove the cover that's next to the fuse box. Push down on the tabs and lift. Attach your (+) feed to one of the empty post, I used the 4th post, and attached the (-) feed to the negative bolt, and then snap the cover back in place. I ran the cord through the hood latch and out through the front grill. Enjoy!
I have been using the clips also but decided to hardwire mine today. The two unused posts #'s 4 and 5 are not hot in my car therefore will not pass current from the battery maintainer. Does anyone know where to place a fuse in the fuse block to make either of those two posts live?

I was wondering about that. My 6' extension cable won't be here until Monday for me to finish my install.

They should all be hot. I think they are all on the same buss bar. I have several things on number 4 that always have power.

Nope, they are not as verified by my Fluke Multimeter.

That strange. Mine is also a 2SS, just three years older.

Battery Tenders are never a waste of money.

Is there any way you could determine what fuse location supplies power to post #4?

Thanks

If your battery was draining that quickly overnight, you'd have much bigger problems, and a battery tender wouldn't be the solution. It's really for when a car is sitting stationary for weeks or months.

That being said, I'd still recommend getting one. You never know when your driving habits could change. Maybe you get a 2nd car. Maybe you decide to ride a bike to work. Maybe a global pandemic hits.

They are super easy to use. You can just put the one alligator clip on the positive battery terminal (the red cap seen in some photos posted here) and one on the ground pin at the side of your engine bay. The folks in this thread are using a slightly more complex method of wiring extension leads into their engine bays. To each their own, but I don't mind popping the hood each time.
