LTG 1LE Pads
Hey guys, I'm looking into track pads for some events starting in May and I've having trouble finding pads specifically for the rear.
Are the A1X stock rears 23344220 the best I can do? How are the OE J55 front pads? I'm an intermediate licensed SCCA TT driver and will be running on either re71s or 655's. I'm used to tracking the z34 platform which is very comparable in weight, I'd have melted the OE Akebono pads on that car. I have a preference towards Carbotech and I am extremely anti-Hawk. If the stock rears are the best I can do, I wonder how much balance I'd be changing by using say an XP10 in the front? I'll swap to some rbf or srf prior. I apologize for the questions and appreciate responses, I couldn't find much on the advanced search and manually went back 20pages of threads. Last edited by NLZN21; 01-25-2021 at 12:11 PM. |

Hello and welcome!
https://www.knsbrakes.com/c/car-item...+Front+Caliper Pretty much any front pad you can get will have a matching rear pad for it as well. Just a heads up it seems like the hawks are the go to pad on this forum. People seem to be having a good outcome running DTC-60's front and rear. I tried to run the G-loc's and I personally felt like the initial bite wasn't as good as what I had with the hawks. although they do seem to have lasted longer. Possible trade off there. I personally have no experience with the Carbotech. Also a lot of the 1le guys seem to enjoy the factory pad as well for your typical track day. Again welcome to the party!

What's the part number of your OEM pad?

So, Carbotech and Hawk both make the full line of pads for the J55. For Carbotech: Front Pad - CT1001 Rear Pad - CT1718 For Hawk: Front Pad - HB453(X).585 Rear Pad - HB727(X).592 Hawk Compound letter codes are: F - HPS, G - DTC-60, U - DTC-70, R - Street Race, N - HP+ (new compound) If you are considering Hawk, give them a quick call to verify the J55 front pad. 800-542-0972

The CT1718* pad is for a 4piston caliper.
Unlike the SS, the 4/6cyl 1LE's don't have Brembo rears. From what I can tell from the part#s they share the same rears with the base model LS/LT. I can find pads for the front j55's, that's not the issue. It's track pads I can't find for the rear which are just normal single piston calipers. Edit: Dynamic Friction makes a rear advertised as "performance" however I'd love to know track experience on the stock rears. |

So it's a floating caliper? Punch your VIN# into gmpartsdirect and see the part number of your rear caliper. Did you call Hawk? I am still coming up with the HB727Q.592 as the correct rear pad.

13515886 I'm waiting on CT to get back with me. I'd rather not deal with Hawk if I can help it. If I'm forced into using their product at the end of the day I'll suck it up and deal with it if there are no other options and I can run a Dtc30. I was hoping to see a reply here in the future of someone that has tracked on the stock compound and is at least as experienced or hopefully more than I on circuit. |

Well, Hawk would be a good resource just to confirm pad shape. If they give you a pad#, then it'll be a snap to find that shape from other vendors. Since the pad on the J55 is a bit of a mystery, I can't speak to it. If it is the same compound as on the SS 1LE/ZL1/ZLE, that is the best all-around pad I have ever run. I have used Carbotech, Hawk and Powerstop on my 1LE and none of them are as good as the OEM Ferodo.

Carbotech got back to me and they have now added the Rear LT/LS pad form factor to their line for all compounds. Once again, A+ service from them.

Awesome. I'm going to add this info to the brake pad sticky on the 1LE sub.

Good to know. I was considering doing a few time trial events this year, so I'd want something more track oriented than the OEM pads. I don't worry about it for autox since I don't use tons of brake there anyway.
