found during ppf install

[IMG][/IMG

Car was delivered December 7th, it looks like the shipper ****ed up and tried to fix it in a non-standard way because only part of the compound present is VHB, if I'm not using the right initials I mean the industry name for double-sided tape.

The shit that's not VHB is what caused some scratches removing the piece, and it's going to be difficult to remove from where it's stuck to the body of the car.

Depending on how hard or possible it may be to remove the non-standard compound, experience tells me would likely be cheaper just have it fixed then to hire an attorney even if I could prove it.

Any ideas on how to approach this with the shipper? My mind is going about a million miles an hour and I'm just trying to keep my blood pressure down

Update: PPF shop owner, determined it's fixable without repainting. He is willing to do so with no adding costs for me. I accept.

But damn. As someone who loves cars like I would assume most people on the forums here do, just ponder for a moment what kind of asshole would you have to be to stick a piece back on like that for **** sake he can get ass loads of double-sided tape on Amazon for cheap

Is this the end part of the spoiler, which sits to each side of the trunk?

Yes, exactly that. The other side came off clean and easy, nothing unusual. Nothing wrong anywhere else on the car.Thinking Dealer or Factory or in-between at this point.

I looked at every inch, hard, when it came out of enclosed trailer. I know, you wouldn't be able to see anything underneath the part.....but there was not a mark or smudge on the spoiler piece or around it.

If it was caught or bumped hard enough to come off, how is that possible without leaving a trace on the exterior of the piece?

The end caps are dealer installed. The GM procedure calls for an adhesive, DOW Betaseal U-400HV, to be used in addition to the double sided tape that comes with the end caps. It's possible the tech missed or decided against using the adhesive on the other cap. I can imagine a few scenarios on the dealer end why one had it and not the other. They may not have even used the correct adhesive. It's possible the transport guy had zero to do with it.

A competent body shop would have the tools to remove the adhesive/tape without paint damage.

Did the ppf installer have a tough time removing the end cap?

I installed my own end caps. Only used the pre installed double sided tape and not the additional adhesive. I messed up the alignment a little on my passenger side cap and wasn't satisfied. After a week of it bothering me I laterally pushed on the cap and it popped off. Not really a surprise because the double sided tape probably didn't have a good hold yet. I came to the conclusion that the addition adhesive would have really gave the cap a strong hold. I reinstalled with fresh tape but was a little unconfident the cap would stay on over time but that has abated. I haven't had any problems.

Yeah the side without the extra compound came off very easy they even said it was loose, the side with the stuff on it that looks like JB Weld of course was pretty difficult to get off. GM customer service just got done telling me to go f myself basically because I don't want to bring it to a dealer to look at. I explained to them that to do that I would have to unwind a $7,000 ppf install, and no matter what they do I'd have to pay to have it done again.

I'm going to look for information on removing that particular compound. Thank you for all that info part of it is just not understanding how it would have happened your breakdown sounds pretty good

Mine was supposed to be dealer installed on my LT1 but the spoiler was on backorder. Finally came in the other day and I opted to installed it myself. Easy to install and I did not use any sealer, just the double sided tape that was already installed on it. One of the endcaps came apart, the plastic outer shell from the inner. It looked like it was just held together with some hot glue, kinda crap process. I ended up using 3m mounting tape to attach the two parts together. It is not perfect but it is holding. I do want to replace it but not sure how I can just buy one end piece..

Sorry, just saw this.

I don't have a link, I took those pics of the actual instructions within the end cap kit.
