Brembo rear brakes squeking

Hello,

I recently bought a 2023 SS with 1LE package. After a couple hundred miles I noticed a horrible squeking sound coming only from the rear drivers side region when decelerating between 30-15mph.

I kept driving on it hoping it was normal break in and would go away. The sound volume did seem to go down but it continued enough to annoy the sh*t out of me.

This week I took it to the dealer and they applied a copper paste to the pads (only on the rear drivers brake pad) based on GM Bulletin 17-NA-040.

At first it was quiet like a mouse and I was tickled, but after driving on it about 30 miles occasionally it comes back, though definitely not as loud.

It is still annoying, and I don't know when or if its going to happen but its annoying enough. The vehicle is brand new, and should be perfect, and it is not perfect.

Is there a permanent fix/solution? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The fix is to use the brakes hard and often. If you soft on them they just glase up and that’s a common outcome

Performance brakes will often squeak. As with other performance items, it can actually be “worse” to not use something… versus stretching its legs once in awhile. The sound will go away, or reduce, if you use the brakes.

Usually if you use the break in method it solves it, find a nice empty road, take her to about 55-60 and lay into them fairly heavy, repeat 3-4 times.

Buy some power stop extreme brake pads and follow the break in instructions. That way you don’t have to clean your wheels every time you drive it

I have the power stops however they are inferior to the stock pad’s however yes no dust in comparison. Unfortunately I track the car and the power stops are a hard NO

It's not the pad material making the noise, it's contact points that aren't coated properly, especially the retaining pins. I replaced the pads on my Vette at the same time since I was there, because it developed a horrible squeal from the RR side and was quite embarrassing. I got power stop pads to cut down on the damn dust, it ruins the clearcoat on the wheels as well as unsightly, so I got some of the copper paste from the dealership and used it vs the lube the pads provided, lubed the guides and pins, quiet ever since. Brembo pads are harder so vibrations from their contact with the rotor are moving the pad against the retaining pin, there was a visible wear point in the holes of backing plate of the pad. Vibration is the key word here, it would only squeal coming to a stop at lights or signs,15 mph or lower, moderate pedal pressure. So speeds & pedal pressure points are different for everyone, but the fact that the noise disappeared momentarily affirms it's not glazing or pad material contact with the rotor. I don't know why they ignore those pin holes in the bulletin, but it was easy to see the where the pin was rubbing.

I haven't lubed the pins for years and never have the rear brake pads squeaked except maybe slightly on a cold day before they warm up. The service manual doesn't call for lubricating the pins, just the top and bottom edges of the rear pads as pictured above.

If you track the car ceramic extreme (like Permatex 24129) is the only bake lube I have found that won't get too hot and disappear after track use.

Also if you spray the brake calipers directly with a pressure washer while washing the car that might wash away the lube and cause the squeaking.

I have been doing brakes for many years I would polish ( wire wheel ) all the hardware and wipe the pins down with high temp brake grease. just clean up all contact points with wire brush lightly lube and assembly good as new.
