Mr. Turkus has shown us that as an automotive journalist he has limitations....Please stick to reviewing the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic's....

I saw a picture of the ZL1 and fell in love. I realized that the SS would fill all my needs and probably save me from surrendering my DL to the state and 20 grand to boot....

You can never have too much horse power...

The issue is putting the HP to the ground and making sure the car and driver can handle it effectively.

Brandon in this article said the ZL1 is scary fast.

Of course, this is his DD:

I am thinking he should not be writing about automobiles.

You guys are rough. Did you miss all the praise he gave?

*high praise for the ZL1's standard adaptive suspension. This Camaro does 90 the way most cars do 65, and it's because of GM's work on the magnetic dampers and in the wind tunnel. Be it on freeways or country lanes, the ZL1's suspension does a great job of smoothing out the road and tracking straight and true. Paired with super-supportive Recaro-branded seats, the ZL1 gobbled up the 500-mile drive far easier than expected.

*the new GM/Ford collaboration is far quicker at swapping cogs than a human, delivering upshifts that are smooth and remarkably like a double-clutch in speed, whether in full auto or manual mode

*The 435-hp 5.0-liter V-8 wasn't as sonorous or exciting to listen to, its acceleration was also more relaxed, and compared to the ZL1's impressive 10-speed automatic, Ford's aging 6-speed auto felt slow and antiquated

*The ZL1 is such a serious performer, such an impressive piece of engineering

*pick up a ZL1—it's a hell of a car

He also acknoledges his shortcomings as a driver:

Quote:
*I realized my right foot wasn't disciplined enough to maintain speed

*the ZL1's performance envelope is too high for this particular mortal to freely enjoy

It's not like every article is written by Randy Pobst after GM just bought him an extremely expensive dinner with a happy ending afterwards. Take it as just one guys' data point.

Fair enough. I take back my pedal car comment

THIS !

Article is a POS - the author has no business being scared driving a car out of his league, and should stick to driving his electric/hybrid POS in the HOV lane, basking in the bliss that he is saving the Earth!

To quote Mark Donohue

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower.

No, it will never have enough power until I can spin the wheels at the end
of the straightaway in high gear. Too much power is never enough....

He drove some of the craziest cars from back in the day from Can Am, Trans Am, F1..... etc

So true!! I have a Z06 and I constantly find myself cruising at 80-90 on freeways. The cars are so planted at those speeds its amazing. Its why I have invested in the escort 9500 ci!! And always use the Waze app on hwy/freeways.
