Motul X Clean 8100 5w40 or New GM 0w40 for Track/Daily Driving?

Hey everyone. Question for you more seasoned track folk.

I’ll be heading to my first ever track event in a couple weeks (Track Night in America @ Pocono Raceway) and going to change my oil prior to the event.

Looking for an oil I can use at the track but also stay with for daily driving, I’ve been leaning towards Motul X Clean 8100 5w40. My only hang up here is that I’ve been hearing about GM releasing a newly approved Dexos 2 0w40 for both track and street applications. Though all the threads I’ve read on the new GM oil were from early last year or older.

Anyone have any insight on the new oil, and which one I should go with if it’s even released yet??

Any info would be awesome as I’m going to be ordering ASAP. Thanks!

I have been exclusively using the Motul one for track and street use (the car is not my daily though). My car doesn't seem to burn a drop of oil and everything has been great so far (just hit 10k mi).

I'm sure either will work fine as they fit the warranty spec so it's up to you.

Use which ever is cheaper, don't forget Valvoline MST which can be had for 6$ a qt when on sale at Napa.

You can daily drive Dexos2 approved oil with no issue.

I have been using the Motul 5w-40 for street and track. In the summer and 5w-30 in the winter. Zero oil burning so far.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I’m gonna follow through and get the Motul 5w40 for this track session and upcoming warmer months, then possibly go with the new Mobil 0w40 when the temps start to drop (I’m in NYC).

Only reason I’m thinking of the switch to the new ESP 0w40 afterwards is because its apparently better for your cats in the long term. Haven’t heard too many accounts or examples of people with cat converter issues though. I’m planning on eventually switching to headers + high flow cats down the line so I don’t think it really matters lol.

Get whatever is cheapest. Ive been running the GM 19353135 Mobil1 0w40 but I also know a guy at the dealer that has been selling it to me for a reasonable price.

+1. I like 5w40 Valvoline MST Dexos2 for summer months.

About 14k miles on her, mostly track and to/from. Zero oil burning or any other issues. Full stock car.
