So... if I'm doing a full change with filter... GM now recommends the 0W-40 ESP? Not the 5W-30 I've been using in the past? This is news to me, I just want to make sure since I'm about to go buy the slippery stuff...

I disagree... let it sit overnight and then check it once it's all drained down to the pan.

I put 10 qts in and the next day it's right at the top of the hashmarks on the LT4

GM changed the recommendation for the 2019 LT1 as I recall. Mobil makes 0W-40 in ESP dexos 2 certified and European formula. Only the ESP is dexos certified. Unfortunately you’re not likely to find the ESP formulation on the shelf in most retail outlets. If not then you’re fine with 5W-30 dexos certified. There are a few threads about web deals for the 0W-40 ESP if you want to have it on hand for your next oil change.

Cool. Thanks.

The Owner's Manual mentions 5W30 for the street so I run Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic 5W30 dexos 1

If you never hit the track, then 5W-30 DEXOS is okay.

0W-40 DEXOS 2 is good for people like me that use their car mostly for DD, but occasionally track it.

If you just use your car for tracks, 15W-50 is what's recommended.

That's only for the ZLE and ZR1. 0W-40 ESP is the oil everyone else should using for both on and off track.

Here's the best deal out there with some great coupons for 1st time orders.

Track Prep Manual actually shows that 15W-50 can be used on the track. Pretty sure I saw 15W-50 is okay for track use only somewhere. It might be a C7 manual.

And I don't tend to buy fluids online, for the very simple reason that whatever savings I can get, shipping (and import/duty if it's not in Canada) will absolutely destroy it. Fluids cost a crap ton to ship in general. Thanks for the link, though.

Yes, it's definitely okay but not mandatory like it is for the ZLE. (just listed as an alternative if others are not available) I think most would not want to do an additional change just for a track day if not required. 15W-50 is not recommended for street use in any of our cars so you would have to change back to 0W40.

I normally don't buy oil online either except this is so hard to get in the store and the dealers charge an arm and a leg. We've had a couple of threads on this and Speedway came out tops shipped to your door. I've ordered at least 4 times from them and had $20 off coupons a couple times. I've also never paid shipping.

Oh yeah, if you plan to do street driving then 0W-40 DEXOS 2 is what's recommended. 15W-50 is listed as a dedicated track oil, it seems like.

I saw that the shipping is free... for the continental US. I live in Canada, so I can't take advantage of this. Looks like a great deal for anyone living in the US for sure.

Yes, the supplement you posted is track only and does not cover street use.

No idea what shipping is for Canada but you may have better luck finding it than we do. I get two extra quarts with that Speedway deal so every 4th order I get a half price oil change.

I actually like the 10-qt sump over say, 8 or 9 quart. Makes 'measuring' easy!

Dump in two 5-qt jugs and all set. Perfectly filled up to the top of the hatch on my SS.

Basically, oil wise, use 5W30 Dexos 1 if not tracking the car. If tracking, you use the 0W40 ESP Dexos 2. Not more complicated then that.

I purchased the Mobil1 0W-40 to do my first oil change at 1500 - what can I count on the dealership putting in for the 2 free GM/dealer oil changes? Presumably at minimum a Dexos1 5w-30 full synthetic?
