Octane boosters are typically a mix of aromatics (e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene) and alcohols (methanol and ethanol). You can find recipes online to make your own. Some of these chemicals are on the dangerous side and are carcinogenic. So handle safely in well-ventilated area.

If octane is an additive to keep the fuel from pinging (exploding too soon) isnt that like watering the high test down to keep it from exploding too soon. Hence lower grade is more potent, right.

Which Union 76 station is that fellow Mission Viejo resident?

Octane rating is really A.K.I., anti-knock index. This only relates to the compressibility of the fuel, which is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons.

The unit energy/volume of fuel is independent of octane rating.
So 87 and 93 are both potent, it's just you can squeeze 93 tighter before it causes problems.

I may have exaggerated the "nearby" part, but it's not that far. 15 miles from my residence (MV) in Newport Hills. Not a bad drive at all.
Newport Hills 76
2690 San Miguel Dr.
Newport Beach 92660

It's off Bonita Canyon Road (Culver) just past the 73. I go on a weekday mid-morning, not too busy then.

Thanks, I'm familiar with that location. I was hoping that there was something even closer that I was unaware of.

My 2023 ZL1 says 91+ on the fuel door.

2017 SS says "premium fuel recommend"

Is that a model year or trim difference?

My options are 91 Top Tier or 93 not TT. Can't have my cake and eat it too.

All fuel comes through the same pipeline. The difference is the additive package put in a tanker truck load depending on where it is going. Walmart or BP same fuel different additive packs. As long as the fuel station looks decent and has good business I would get the highest octane or best price.

At approximately a 94-94.5 octane mix, it is pulling much less, if any, timing during acceleration, other than what traction control is pulling if I'm using it.
That's good, I'll definitely have to throw a few gallons in and give it a try

Weird thing happened, i filled up regular 87 gas in my ZL1 at Shell today although i hit 93 ,the receipt shows 87 , other than driving it easy and using up all this gas and refilling with premium what else should i be concerned about?

I live in California and 99% of the gas station have a max of 91
However I am lucky enough to have a station that serves many different levels of octane

They have other pumps that have your E85 and standard grades also

I would take a couple of long drives and use it all up, take it easy, no going into boost. My wife's Fusion has a Mountune tune in it and will peak 22psi of boost (almost double factory boost pressure). It was tuned with 93 octane, but traveling to West or Central Texas you will find only 91 and I have seen the computer register knock when on 91 and leaning on the throttle, like passing someone. For that, I can switch maps on the fly to the 'bad gas' map which pulls some timing out and makes the knock learn zero out until I get back to 93 pumps.

So just drive makes more sense than a can of octane booster.

Lol
