Got a Clear Bra quote yesterday

Called the local shop that does the vast majority of business in our area. He handles a lot of the $100k+ vehicles and from some of the people that I know have used him, the guy does quality work.

I called looking for Xpel but he spoke of the same issues others had heard a couple of months ago that the adhesive Xpel uses is having issues. He said it is being blamed on 3M buying the adhesive company out and changing the formula. None the less he is the 2nd person to say they've had problems with Xpel.

He suggested the new 3M HD Pro film, 7yr warranty for it. His quote just for the front nose on the 1LE was $1000 plus another $400 to do both rockers from the front fenders along the doors to the front of the rear tires and then up to the seam line where the rocker meets the rear fender.

How does this stack up against what some of you have paid?

Sounds pretty high to me. My guy did it for $600 using Suntek film (I think). That included rockers, door handles, mirrors, in front and behind all the wheels above the rear bumper, and of course, the nose. I don't remember the warranty info. I have to find the documents to double check.

Way too high...$1000 for the nose? I paid like half that and used one of the highest rated installers in the area (which others on here have used too).

...and FYI a friend of the family is a distributor for multiple PPF films in NY, I asked him about any issues with Xpel, and he said "I never heard of anything in regards to that, and that their film is the most recommended" & "Issues are 99.9% of the time the installer, not the film".

I have used 3M and Xpel, the Xpel is superior. I had my car done a few weeks ago with Xpel Ultimate, IMO the film is the clearest, and best quality I have ever used, and the installers had zero issues with the adhesive. I have had about nine cars done with PPF, I wouldn't use anything but...

That is very high, about 2X the going rate for a quality installer and film. Also be open the Suntek film, it is very high quality and considered as good as XPEL before it started having problems, and I too have heard from a couple of installers that XPEL's "formula" has changed and it has created some issues. True or not I do not know. I do know from 3 of my cars that Suntek is excellent.

Ok, I will check with the other big shop. They never called me back so I sort of wrote them off, but I also hate to over pay as well.

How many pieces are the front ends of your cars getting done in?

I just got a quote yesterday from the same installer that SS 1LE used. Ranged from $575 for just the nose, up to $1265 for the rest of the pertinent areas. Mirror backs, windshield pillars, and rockers etc. The rocker were a lot more pricey that I expected.

Has anyone considered the do it yourself route with a pre-cut kit? I used on on a 2012 GMC Denali 3500 and it went rather well for a first timer.

I got mine from http://www.invisiblemask.com

I'm debating professional install or trying it myself. I can't report on success or failure any time soon as my TPW is 4/10.

The two places here in SE MI that quoted me were $600 and $700 for just the front.

I'd run from this guy. First he knocks the competition with inaccurate data, then wants to charge you through the nose for a front end. XPEL jobs are anywhere from 500 to 900 bucks pending on where you are. Go to their site and find an installer your area.

If you get Xpel Ultimate (self healing) it will cost you $600 just for the front bumper with splitter not considering labor.
Rocker panels cost $420 w/o labor.

I didn't do the whole rockers, I just removed the factory PPF from the rear rockers and had them add larger pieces to those areas. Pretty much from the bottom of the door, all the way back to the wheel well, and all the way up to the body line...she charged me $80 for that (both sides) which I thought was very fair. If she had to remove the old film, I would expect a higher price...

Not necessarily as those are "retail" l numbers. I paid $500 for the whole front bumper with labor...I did not do the splitter as the PPF would have added a little gloss to the finish making it not match the other satin black parts. Plus, if that ever got damaged it is easy to remove and re-paint.

600 was the best I got as well. I called all the local XPEL installers to get quotes and 600 was the best I got for just the entire front bumper, most places were 850-950. Mine was wrapped last weekend and I am very pleased. This guy also has an impressive portfolio of work - just did a full wrap on a new porsche 911 GT3 before mine, so he isn't some hack either lol

correct me if im wrong but isnt that the cost for you and I to buy a kit? I thought most installers just bought the film bulk and have a machine to cut the patterns. I called my guy and was in getting my car done a day or two later, doubt he had time to order a kit. I also was his first 1LE and maybe first camaro (can't remember)

same here on the splitter. Below is a pic of the splitter with a sample of XPEL ultimate on the right and XPEL STEALTH on the left. The stealth is basically a frosted XPEL rather than gloss and makes any surface matte. we decided worst case if it starts taking damage we will just wrap it in the same 3m as the hood so everything matches

Xpel only has 2 installers in the state, this guy is one of them. The other guy never answers his phone or returns phone calls. Last time when I wanted Xpel I had to order the kit online and then had a friend come over and install it for me who used to do wrapping jobs.
