No.

The manual is written by marketing people, based upon engineering suggestions/specifications, and overseen by legal departments.

Case-in-point - the manual specifically says:

Simply put . . . then manual is there to protect GM's ass. Not you or your car.

Manuel says best time to check oil is in a cold engine. Warm engine can give a faulty reading since a lot of the oil is still in the top of the engine and if you add oil it could be over filled. This could then cause possible engine damage due to oil foam.
Also if you like to jerk on your oil stick the plastic handle will eventually break off. I have a simple fix for that. Just heat up a screw and melt it into the remaining broken plastic stub.
