To all my fellow Floridian 5th-Gen friends...

I just want to wish you all the best of luck with what's coming our way. Hope everyone stays safe and doesn't get hammered too hard. Ian looks to be quite a bastard.

I'm in Hernando County, 45 miles north of Tampa and look to be in the bullseye for landfall (as of now at least), about 15 miles from the Gulf. I am moving the Camaro to the mother-in-laws house due to the massive oak trees that hang over my house...Yeah, I have no garage. After the branch that fell on it last year I am taking no chances lol.

My wife and I were looking to retire in the Tampa/Sarasota area. I take it this is something we should become accustomed to, huh.

9/10 its just a really big rainstorm and you will have to clean some branches and debris from your lawn. If you have a lot of trees, be careful parking a car near them. Palm trees are fine, they are built for this sort of weather. True Floridians don't bat an eye to this sort of thing. I have lived here my whole life and throughout Katrina and Wilma, which were pretty bad. Problem is most people panic, go out and buy all of the gas from the gas stations, and clean out the grocery stores of water, and alot of the canned goods. You could practically start a generator repair business everytime a hurricane rolls through because everyone panic buys generators or wants their old one up and running. I live on the East coast of Florida, so all I am gonna see is 2 or 3 days of nonstop rain nothing I can't handle. I hope everyone fairs well, and your families and cars are also safe.

Good luck. While usually not as bad here, we get sloppy seconds from every hurricane that hits the US. Got at least 12 last year. Gonna be a wet weekend.

How about Isabel? Lived in Lake Anna at the time, eye passed right over us. That's the worst I can remember

Yea Isabel was a wild one too. We got a shit ton of rain from that one and a good bit of wind but not as bad as the areas closer to the coast. The eye is kind of a spooky deal. I’ve only had it go over me one time that I can remember back in the early 00’s. Don’t remember which storm it was now. 20-minutes minutes of relative calm and then bat out of hell all over again.
