Excessive A/C Condensation Drain

Has anyone experienced an excessive amount of water draining from under their car. Mine had a large spot under it this AM when I was leaving the gym. It continued to drain after I got home. I’m certain it was condensation because it was crystal clear and cool. I know condensation is normal but this is more than I’ve ever seen from any car, and I’m old.

There is no such thing as "excessive ac condensation". It just means you ac is doing its job correctly. Amount will vary depending on your vehicle settings as well as the ambient temp and humidity

We have the same thing up here. The more humidity in the air the harder the
air conditioner has to work so moister freezes to the radiator inside the box under our dash. When you turn off or stop the engine it thaws. The water dumps out. This is the easy terms.

Probably normal considering assuming the humidity levels. I live in Florida and this is pretty normal down here.

Run your fan at full speed, vents open for a few minutes before shutting the car off.

My technique is simiilar, I turn the A/C off but keep the fan running for the last 2-3 miles before reaching the destination. The air remains cool until the last half minute or so, thus it isn't a big sacrifice and I don't have a giant puddle on the garage floor either.

Condensation draining off the evaporator is a good thing. You don't want it pooling in the car or sticking to the evaporator fins, which can lead to mold and corrosion.

If you turn off compressor and keep fan running you are blowing off the condensate and putting it back in the cabin, which is probably preferable if you don't like puddles. But you are increasing cabin humidity.

As an aside, if you are worried about humidity in your home, you should always run your air handler fan in "auto" mode, so the evaporator has time to drip off between compressor cycles. A lot of people like to leave the fan running, which can even out distribution, but also blows moisture back into the house. Techs who don't like to think about the math behind ductwork love to advise keeping blowers running.

You should only be concerned if there isn’t any puddle under the car.
That would mean the evaporator drain is clogged or the ac isn’t working.

Concerns on water pooling excessivly after running with A/C.

Hey bud. It's really humid and hot. I saw that you live in Alabama. That is hardcore hot and humid! The closest I have been to the deep south is in the Southern tip of NC. It was savagely humid! I thought NVA was hot and humid. Not even close!
One function of an A/C unit is that the water in the air in your car is collected and released by the evaporator core. The following is from wikipedia:
"Water: If it's water, and you know you've been running the air conditioner or interior heater, it's likely just condensation from the cooling mechanisms. Specifically, the evaporator core leaks water from under the passenger side of the engine compartment when the air conditioner is being used. This is normal use."

There are a few things to worry about with Camaro 6th gen. Fortunately this isn't one of them. PersonI I cant wait until September.

If you run your A/C on recirculate, you'll keep cooling cabin car vs fresh intake of higher temperature (and more moisture laden) air. It also helps you get lower output temp once things start to cool down.

What's wrong with A/C condensation? That's what A/C is designed to do. When humid air is cooled, water condenses.

Science.

This is good advice. Since OP was concerned about "excess" condensate, recirc is a good move.
I forget that not everyone has auto climate. My commute is so short that my auto climate never switches out of recirc on a hot day.

The moisture can be a fungus breeding ground and on some cars will lead to a horrible musty smell.

I agree, it seems to be a lot of condensation compared to other cars. But, I have to say this is one of the best performing car AC’s ( Strictly from a speed of cooling perspective). I also like that the 6.2 enables a relatively seamless compressor start / stop.
