The cheapest track day at the Ring that I've been able to find is about 500 Euro (so $650ish) but there's only 2-3 of these per year so they fill up fast. There's usually a dozen or so around 700 Euro but again those fill up quick too. THEN there's the big money ones from like $1200-4000 which are for the rich guys with GT3 RS and money to burn haha

and yea for TF it's 30 Euro per lap on weekends and 35 on week days, for the season pass which is unlimited laps during TF it was 2200 Euro ($2600).... Pays for itself after about 75 laps. I'm currently on lap 15 for the year (counting laps I've payed for in other peoples cars) so I have a lot of ground to make up haha

Now that my car is back in working order I plan to do as many laps as possible for the rest of the season!

Camaro engineer/hot shoe with tons of seat time, yes.

Pro driver... not so much.

No disrespect to you and especially Bill Wise intended. Rev match off, all heel toe.

It has been a year since I got my last nail puncture...time for another - hardly 5000 miles on the rears...replaced both thanks to Tire Rack.

Other project is consuming my time...have a timeline we must meet thanks to the German rule situation...we are getting close:

Then will turn my focus back to the Camaro...crossed 32,000 miles recently.

A hot patch inside the tire is a safe and effective repair

Ted: Good point. I've patched a few tires thanks to construction when back in the states.

Although, my comfort level is not the same on the autobahn. Thanks.

Our Mitsubishi project is nearing its roadworthy condition finally...runs and drives! Just no inspection...salty roads will hold that for March.

and

Now some time to point toward the inoperative Camaro. Last trip to the ring was cold (40 degrees) which meant more boost than ideal. At 157 mph on the fastest straight...smoke and oil show. Fortunately, no body panels were scratched in the fun nor where any other autos involved. Serious issue on the German roads during tourist drives. Clean up and tow(s) home were not inexpensive or quick either.

and

Nonetheless, I would guess a cracked piston from last years top end run gave up in more significant fashion. Oil leakage and engine is running on 6 or 7 cylinders points toward a new engine project - I've got another assistant that is itching for some wrenching so a new engine will allow us some quality time. He has built an LS 5.3 already so more versed that I in the new fangled engines.

Already ordered the rotating assembly for a lower-end, mild 416 cu in assembly.

Will be replacing the DOD lifters with something that allows for 7000 rpm operation along with a mild camshaft.

Basically a larger displacement LT1 with a mild bump in power, but able to rev a bit more.

Took a bit of research and coordination...to locate an in-stock OEM LT1 block and a company vendor that would ship overseas a preferred company (or get slammed with $700 import German fee!).

Nonetheless, package is en-route at $325 to cross the ocean. Seems pretty darn reasonable!

Sorry to hear about the stock engine letting go, it served you well.
Good luck on the 416 build, should be fun. I hope parts sourcing isn't too much of a hassle.

Spring will be here before you know it.

Bit disappointing, but there is a reason why Chevy offered the LT4 with forged pistons, lower compression, etc. Hope to make it a bit better than the LT4 offering in the end.

Few parts are starting to arrive...

Displacement on Demand plugs - I have learned that Chevrolet equips my car with all the hardware, but doesn't trigger it in the ECU (assembly line efficiencies, likely), but the lifters that are part of the DOD are monsters and likely the reason why this engine didn't want to rev past 6550 at times. These plugs block the passages so normal camshaft lifters can be employed:

And a bit of a splurge - aluminum diverter in place of the OEM plastic barbell:

And arrival via air freight! Rather quick IMO and no 29% up charge to the Germans!:

Was concerned about the transporting to my residence as we only have the most useful car in the world - Honda Jazz...but it swallowed it with room to spare:

Also received notice the 416 rotating assembly finally shipped...

Got a chance to pop open the crate...

Part number:

Cover off:

Work of art! I weighed it...112 pounds block only. So much easier on the back than the cast iron Gen I/III SBC blocks I've lugged around!:

Cam bearings already installed:

Cylinder standard 4.065 bore hatch:

Interesting it is 'missing' the cross main bolts, but does have a few plugs:

And here I thought my car was getting a big upgrade this year! Hopefully you have her done before summer time so we can get some more laps in!

Few more arrivals!

C5R timing chain from Katech:

And rev capable Johnson 2110K Lifters replacing the OEM DOD lifter monstrosities (slightly larger diameter to combat low oil pressure issues):
