We don't know it's DOHC. We do know it is supercharged and that won't work for the Z/28. Even Al O has said the Z/28 would be n/a.

Yeah, I know but that information came from the VIN cards, which have referred to engines as DOHC in the past, yet they weren't. I don't see how GM could fit such a large engine under the hood of the Corvette. It makes more sense to keep the 6.2 OHV and throw on the bigger 2.65 TVS, which the hood bulge would clear.

It is going to be extremely difficult to go over 650 hp with an NA engine. It will be expensive, have really bad fuel consumption, a wicked gas guzzler tax and would weigh at least as much as the LT4.
They might as well put a bigger blower on the LT4, plus a few more light weight carbon fibre parts.

Its pretty much been confirmed that the LT5 engine is actually just an LT4 with upgrades including a bigger supercharger. There was a source who went into the GM system and look at the code of the LT5 engine, the DOHC LT5 engine on the VIN was a typo.
With that being said the Z/28 doesn't have to be the most powerful car in the lineup, GM actually has a hotter LT1 crate motor making 535BHP and 470ft-lbs of torque. Honestly that engine would be perfect for a Z/28 Camaro considering that the GT350 makes 526BHP. |

Though that would make two hard core track cars for the Camaro and you can debate what the point is for that. Maybe the ZL1 1LE shouldn't have had the aero bits on it, sure it would give up a bit of lap time but would still be insanely fast. |

I'd like to see them bring active aero into the Z/28. The Z/28 brought R comp tires and DSSV dampers, now the new one can bring carbon active aero.

The Z/28 will probably bring to the table carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber wheels, ZL1-1LE aero, and a hi-po NA V8 with a tremec tr-9007 DCT. Thats my forecast but its all hope, wishes and fairy dust at the moment but the Z/28 will have to be a lighter unsprung weight car that can carry more corner speed than either of the ZL1's but without a power adder.
This car needs to be a great momentum track car for it to make up for not having a turbo or supercharger as a power adder and we know power adders usually means that it will not be a high revving setup but innovations are on the horizon.

Maybe back track a little.
What Is A Z/28? What is it supposed to Be? Maybe we all want it to be what GM never intended it to be. Al O. Stated they will put the name on a car that is true to the name. (Kinda paraphrasing) Is it a race car? Or a street brute?

If there is a Z28 this generation, it’s going to be above the SS1LE in performance but less than the ZL1. Don’t hold your breath. The LT5 is going to be an LT4 with upgraded intervals and a larger SC. No DOHC, no NA. Not this generation.
