Torque Comparison Question for the V6 Owners
Hey Guys,
I currently own a BRZ but watched the Jalopnik video with the dual mode exhaust on the V6 and was blown away. That said, my biggest complaint about the BRZ is its lack of torque (only 151 lb-ft), so much so that I am looking to trade it in after just 2 years as I can't deal with it anymore. I am yet to test drive the V6 camaro, but I am curious how the torque-feel is on the V6 and how it compares to those of you who have driven smaller, light-weight sports cars like mine. Any insight you guys could provide would be awesome. -Drew |

Its a little diff than smaller CC Engines like the BRZ. The chevy V6 Has got good TQ- line yourself up a ride....the v6 is one of wards top 10 engines of the year, in the industry, thats a big deal.

I'm not a current V6 owner, but a former 5th gen V6 owner.
The V6 doesn't make huge torque, but it still does well, and torque curve is pretty flat from around 2,400 rpm and up, which is what you want. It will be a noticeable step up for you in terms of torque/performance...I think you'll notice if you test drive. You have to keep in mind also, that today's computers do a lot to reduce torque under circumstances such as shifting, taking off from a stop, and such, to help protect the drivetrain and provide a smoother driving experience. I think for performance minded drivers, it can make the car feel like more of a slouch than it really is. Not that my stock 5th gen V6 was a slouch, but I had a few mods to help eliminate throttle lag, and that car jumped when you touched the throttle, which really made the available torque stand out over what it did when stock.

I really like the torque in the V6, it feels much better than the smaller 4 Cy engines to me. I say go drive it! See what you think.

Easiest thing is to go test drive the car, the BRZ is a lightweight nimble car where power is not a priority. The camaro is a bigger and heavier car but overall faster in a straight line.
BRZ is 0-60 6.4sec and 1/4 mile 14.9 V6 Camaro 0-60 5.1 and 13.5 |

Thanks guys for the responses. I'll definitely go out and take a test drive. Its been a nightmare constantly shifting down 2 gears to pass someone on the highway.

The new 3.6 in the camaro is A completely new engine from the 15' camaro. Different board and stroke even. More low in power and a bump in the upper range too. With better internals and fule economy.

Just don't drive an SS. I'm coming from a BRZ myself and just placed an order for my 1SS. Before the BRZ, I came from a tuned WRX. So I at least had some torque in the middle of my power band. I definitely had to change the way I drive when I switched to the BRZ.

I got to test drive the v6 and I was pretty impressed. My previous car was a 2014 Mazda CX5 with a 2.5L engine. Compared to that it was night and day. I have also owned a 2007 Mazda RX8, talk about lack of tq, that car didn't have any until 5K rpms. The Camaro v6 pulled way harder than the rx8 ever did.

@tosserlad I would be interested in hearing your opinion on how the SS compares to the BRZ. I am sure having more than 2x the HP and almost 3x the torque is unbelievable, but does the SS feel heavy in comparison? I'm all for power, but I would like to maintain some aspect of handling / road feedback

I was originally working with Thomas but when the car came out they had no pull to get any on the lot, it took them a long time. So I ended up test driving one as Spencers and bought mine at Chapman by the airport. I like Thomas Chevy and I wish I was able to buy mine their but Champan had one on the lot and the price was right. I did however transfer my car to Thomas service dept. If their is anything else I can help you with let me know.

Did OP test drive one yet? I was going to recommend testing the 2.0L Turbo. Slightly more torque than the V6. Turbo engines can put out a nice high flat torque curve...
