I currently own a new M4 Competition and a ZLE. The M4 feels just as fast as the ZL1 from a roll (sotp) in a straight line. The M4 Competition RWD runs 125mph in the 1/4 and 150mph in the 1/2 mile, which is pretty much ZL1 and hellcat territory.
The 3.0 Supra (B58) is much more comparable to the LT1/SS and the current M3/M4 is comparable to the ZL1.
The M4 is much easier to see out of and enjoyable to daily drive.
The ZLE is superior on the track and overall probably the best bang for the buck out there currently.

The new M4s are monsters. They are also not as nimble. Wheelbase is a few inches longer and it's noticeable in the autoX races I participate in. The M4 appears to be a lot to handle and more "boat-like" for the driver. Capable, but it's more out of it's element here. Higher speed and stuff. At lower speeds my SS1LE is definitely a better chassis and faster. At higher speeds the M4 may be faster until you step up to the ZL1, which even out the power advantage with the better chassis. All that said, the new M4 definitely ups the game from the last gen.

CSL/GTS is definitely in a different category. One that the ZL1 1LE can still compete in, but definitely pretty elite competition in terms of price.

And GT3 RS vs Z06 is also a bad comparo, the Z06 is targeted at the regular GT3. This is where it nudges a little faster in straights, a little slower in turns, but overall VERY close. RS aero goes totally crazy to start getting prepped race-car levels of downforce, not to mention that race-car ride.

Are you talking about the F80 or G82 M4?
The SS1LE isn't faster than than the G82 M4 from ANY speed in a straight line. M4 rwd launches in 2nd and roasts the tires in 1st, so will be close off the line due to traction limitations. M4 Xdrive will does 0-60 in 2.9 - 3.1 sec on street surfaces.
M4 straight line is way closer to the ZL1 than the LT1 (from a dig and roll) and a lot cheaper to make big power with the S58 than the LT4.

I don't track my G82 M4, but it feels far from what I'd describe as "boat like". Please go actually drive a new M3/M4 competition before commenting further.

Latest gen, I compete against them in AutoX. If I was interested in straight-line, I'd have a Tesla

Thanks for the clarification. AutoX definitely is not my cup of tea.

I could imagine an SS1LE giving a ZL1 (non 1le) troubles in AutoX as well.

Yes, it is a size weight power thing. I saw a guy in a 2nd gen Ford Lightning absolutely destroying cars in a parking lot auto-X. Weird

AutoX is all about how well balanced a car is in terms of overall performance and of course the driver's ability to access the handling, braking and power of the vehicle. And the 1LE excels in the balance category.
