Just did this to my '18 2SS & got an "On-Star: An issue with the airbag system has been detected" email.
Does this mean I did it right? lol

No CEL, just that notice

Did you turn on the car with the seats disconnected? If so, likely why you got the e-mail.

But doubtful this will cause any problem.

And if your seats go back further, you did it right.

Could be it.

No issues ever since. Also, for those with the A8, get the Range AFM Disabler. It is FANTASTIC! Car rides 100x smoother than before. No more disgusting sounding, clunky v4 mode punch in & out. 10/10 highly recommend

Hello , safe to assume this can be done for Racaro seats? Also what seat position is best to disconnect the wires and perform the procedure in general? Thank you

GM what were you thinking? Even with a grinder I spent most of the weekend working on this mod. If you use a grinder make sure you move everything out of the way especially that cable with the black housing. As the OP stated, a magnet helps to get the pin out. Thank you for turning us onto this mod. I found the below video to assist on seat removal.

Question - I am looking at the photos and position of the pin to drill and can't stop wondering - can all this be done without having to remove the seat? (removing the seat is the most difficult part - it is heavy, you can hurt yourself and of course you can damage the car)
What if you put it max to front and max up - you should have access from the side, right? If I am not wrong for the passenger seat you are drilling from the outside side.
Just disconnect the battery, then seat connector, remove the plastic covers, unzip the zipper and you should be ready to drill, correct?
Or am I missing something?

BR,
Jarek

Any thoughts on the above suggestion for those who applied or thinking about applying this mod?

No you can't. Here is another issue. You are drilling a metal pin out which results in flaming hot shavings. You would trash your interior. I took the seat out, but left the seatbelt attached. No problem. It is awkward and heavy. Have a big breakfast. To date the best mod I have did to my C4/5/6/7/8 and Camaro. LOL

Valid point teddyca (sorry I have missed out your reply back in 2022).
However if you put proper covers on the floor, seats, door sill (I don't expect hot shavings to reach the roof or open door - not enough kinetic energy) or even better to add to that (as someone suggested before) a strong magnet to fetch the shavings before they go flying, this should be doable, right?
I was wondering if you have a proper access to start drilling when the seat is still in the car but nobody is raising concerns.
