Why no LSD on A8 LTs?
I just thought it was odd that you pay extra for the automatic and lose the LSD on LT cars. I'm sure there's a logical reason, but I'd like to know why we don't get to have drifty good times when we order the A8.
Thanks! |

The same reason why you couldn't get it with the A6 LT back in the 5th gen days. Bean counters at GM. Also, they're probably saving LSD production for the V8 cars.

Yeah, that does sound reasonable, but then why do the manual base cars get it? You pay extra for the auto vs manual and then lose equipment. If it was just purely bean-counting, none of the LTs would have an LSD.

Maybe it's a safety issue too. With the manual trans, Stablitrack/traction control can only do so much to maintain vehicle control with an open differential. So, they just include the LSD at no extra cost on those models.

On the 5th gen, the general speculation was that enthusiasts (ie, the type of people who would care about having a limited slip differential) would represent a tiny percentage of V6 automatic buyers.
