Made The Switch To Camaro
Over this passed weekend I made the switch from Mustang to Camaro and placed a order for a 2016 2SS, White w/jet black interior. Only options I am getting are Automatic Trans which I hope I am not making a mistake with by not getting a Manual 6 speed, Navigation, Dual mode performance exhaust, and 20 5-split spoke gray painted rims. Price is aroung $41873 before tax/lic and any rebate Chevy will have at the time of pick up. Dose this sound like a pretty good deal or think its possible to do better? Thanks for the info in advance

I just made the switch on Friday as well, except I came from a 2015 Subaru STI. You have made a good choice. I too wondered about the A8, but you won't regret it. It's an brilliant setup.

I just purchased my 2016 Camaro 1SS on Friday. Looks like everyone is getting ready for summer! Hopefully we start seeing a surge in 2016 Camaro sales.

I question your hesitation on the auto. I was driving manual cars for a while, but didn't hesitate to go to the A8. 3400 miles later and I am totally satisfied with the choice in transmissions and won't go back to a manual anytime soon if GM continues to build them like this.
I hope you are satisfied with your choice as well and welcome to the dark side.

Drive them both, then decide. The Tremec is a fantastic tranny. Light clutch for a 450HP car...

I drove the A8 and wouldn't say he's making a huge mistake, but it would be a mistake for me. This car screams to be driven with a stick. I literally can not wait to get my car and take it on some windy roads, being able to fully control which gear it is in. You won't be able to drop straight from 4th to 2nd with the A8 since it's sequential and there is a slight bit of paddle delay. Don't get me wrong, it's a good transmission but you should try it and see if it's a big enough problem for you to switch to a manual. You also have Active Rev Matching standard too, so it couldn't be easier. If you're concerned with tenths of a second in 1/4 mile and 0-60 times, just stick with the A8. If this is just going to be a fun weekend car, I would definitely get the manual. You'll never get bored of the car.

I drive mine like a stick with either the paddle shift or the shifter. I have a bunch of curves on my road and its pretty quick shifting in either mode. Obviously its not like a real stick but still fun. Go watch the Zl1 video when they are running the A10 on the road course and you can still have fun with the auto. There both great trannys so its always your choice. For me at 64 years old it was A8 all the way. I've had my fair share of sticks and had great time with each of them, just not for me now.

Welcome! Looks like a good price to me! I haven't driven the A8 but I hear it is good.

I came from a 2012 Corvette Grand Sport with a great manual 6-sp. I loved the tranny in the Vette...100% better than the 6-sp manual I had in an Infiniti G37 at the same time. The infiniti tranny (same one as in the 370Z) was the worst manual trans I've ever driven! Impossible to drive smoothly!
As good as the Vette trans was, I haven't missed it for a second compared to the A8 in the new SS. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I find it really nice not having to constantly shift while cruising around town and the A8 shifts are quick, both up and down. Also, I've never missed third gear yet with the A8!! |

The Mustang and the STI are both great cars, so it's going to be difficult to improve on them. But, if any car can do that, it's the 2016 Camaro! As far as the manual vs auto, I just sold my Corvette Grand Sport with manual and it would be a huge whopper to say I don't miss it, and what makes it even worse, is I'm still in the break-in period on my 2SS. Once it hits 1500 miles, I'm sure the 8A will prove itself worthy of my trust and faith in Chevy.
Congrats on your purchases and enjoy your new rides.
