My dealer says I really only have 3rd, 4th and 5th gear left without any noticeable damage, everything else is crap now.
Yeah my A8 has already been rebuilt 1 1/2 years ago, the thing literally had parts and gears all over the place once they opened it up, right after it crapped out completely as I pulled into the dealership garage! I am just buying time until this supposed fix comes along, but I am sure there is damage to the transmission and converter.

I had a guy in a newer Tahoe the other day at the gas station ask me if I’ve had any issues with the 8 speed. Said his converter had been relaxed once, after that the entire tranny. 45k miles.
the A8 in the Camaro is different from the vehicles mentioned above.

Not really- they are essentially the same design, and they all suffer the same problems.

Camaro 4&6 cylinder models use the 8L45- shares with Colorado/Canyon, Cadillac ct6, ATS/CTS

Camaro SS employs the 8L90, and shared it with the Silverado/Sierra, the vans, the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade. The Corvette uses the 8l90 as well with a torque tube/ trans axle setup.

While there are minor differences between versions, they are essentially the same transmissions.

be that as it may, the torque converter, and the tunes for the transmission aren't the same.

they are similar, in as much as allowing more slip transitioning to and from v4 mode, and during.

sadly, I'm pretty sure that last bit is pretty much the main culprit to the problem.

Regardless of the differences, all models of GM 8 speed experience very similar problems to what we all see here on the Camaro Forum (shuddering, clunkiness, etc). Hopefully GM will have a real fix in q1 2019.

I have tuned mine with HP tuners so it is fine for now. We'll see how that holds out.

Ah, that's what I'm afraid of. Mine is shuddering consistently and pretty badly. I really hope it doesn't damage my transmission before they come out with the fix.

2016 Camaro Shuddering

Bought the car about 3 weeks ago. Drove 2.5 hours to get home and the shuddering was bad. Took to dealership as they were advised to do triple first. One week later the same issue and headed back on Tuesday to repeat flush. They also did a update. Very very disappointed and praying a fix come soon. My payments not riding ragdly so neither should I be.

Pretty sure they will replace any damaged component as part of the remediation. Your car is a 2017, so it should be done under warranty and at no cost.

Had a flush at 500 miles, no problems since. But stopped a red light and gave it gas and the car lunged like it wasn't in gear. Has happened a couple of times. Took to dealer but of course they couldn't duplicate it. Any relation to the shudder problem?

My 16 lemon had the shudder, on the first and second transmission (among many other issues).

My 17 that I settled for was flushed, did nothing, then they replaced the TC, did nothing. I was told to "break it in". 4 months of that and I dropped it off for a TC replacement which they didn't do because GM said to to wait until Q1 19. So they flushed and it's still there.

I completely intended on keeping the 16 for a decade or so with mods, and figured I'd try again with the 17 since I wasn't losing out on any because of the lemon settlement. However, I now I intend on selling it in the next year or two and have had to remain stock to keep the warranty. I just don't think I can trust the transmission with more power long term.

I'd wait to see what the Q1 2019 fix is going to be, if it's a new tune, it can very well solve the problem. Completely understand your frustration given what you've already gone through, but it's an awesome car apart from this, hopefully there is a redeeming card in the stack for next year.

I was planing to keep mine for ever as well. I, like most others am waiting to see what the "fix" will be but unless an extended warranty is part of the deal I'll most likely get out of the car before the power train warranty is out and with it out of GM products all together.

While I can live with the issue until a proper fix can be developed/implemented, they'll need to do something to assure me that the trans is solid. Based on what we're enduring an extended power train warranty certainly would go a long way in restoring my confidence. If not they'll have violated my trust in both the vehicle and them as a company. If this is the case it'll be time for me to find another company to do business with.

Unfortunately based on the way they've treated the American/Canadian work forces lately, I doubt their customers will fair much better. This is starting to look more like a culture issue than a technical issue. Hopefully I'm wrong.
