P050D and P0305 Codes

2016 1SS - about 9,300 miles.

Started the car after work last night, pretty rough idle, even for an LT1 cold start. CEL comes on. Babied it to Autozone around the corner to see how serious it was. Came up with P050D - Cold Start Rough Idle, and P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire. Decided to take it to the dealer rather than attempt my 50 mile commute home. They gave me a loaner car, and said they would call me today once they've had time to look at it.

I will post up my results for those who may run into similar issues. My uneducated guess is that it's injector related.

Anyone else run into rough idle/misfire codes on these cars?

Hopefully, but if it is serious I'd rather have it happen under warranty. I'll be putting miles on this car very quickly, so it won't be long until I'm in front of the hood scratching my head on my own.

I called the service department to get an update, but no answer. I'll post up as soon as I hear something valuable.

Probably spark plug wire or spark plug n maybe a coil.

They are leaning toward injector being the problem. They are supposed to run injector tests tonight or tomorrow, they had to update their equipment. I'm betting I don't hear anything else until Monday.

Just got the car back. They said even through all of their testing, they couldn't replicate the problem. They had my car for 6 days so that they could clear the codes and tell me to come back if it happens again...

In their defense, the car is running like a champ, so I'll chalk it up to a cold start anomaly for the time being. I'll update this thread if I have similar issues in the future.

Car is back in the shop, same codes have popped up, been reset, and popped up again. So this is definitely not a fluke. Through Turkey Day weekend I averaged 13 mpg's, which is a big departure from my normal 22-24... On cold startup it felt like a 454 with solid motor mounts, and I could feel the car trying to compensate for a likely misfire the entire weekend. Sunday evening, CEL turns off on its own, car runs like a dream, and I get 24 mpg on my ride to work Monday morning. I've decided to change the name of the car to Dr. Jekyll. I went ahead and took it in yesterday, and told them to keep it until they figure out the problem. They gave me a 2017 RS 2.0T for a loaner this time, in red. Pretty car, much better than the Malibu. I'll be in Vegas tomorrow through Saturday, so unless I hear something today, I probably won't have any updates until at least Monday. I still think it's something in the injector circuit.

They replaced 2 injectors and parked the car outside last night, so that they could get a good cold start this morning and run diagnostics. Hopefully I'll get a call by the end of the day. Also, Vegas was fantastic.

Injectors 4 & 5 replaced, car runs perfectly. I don't think it ever idled this good on a cold start...

Just had these codes pop for me today after a cold start. Didn't really notice it being any rougher than normal though and it drove fine. Have 33k miles on the car. I'll see if they come back and if they do i'll have to take it in. Wonder if it would covered under warranty though since I have headers and a tune.

Mine did that twice before it started really stuttering. Depends on the dealer whether they cover it or not, but I've seen them try not to over cold air intakes and catch cans, around here at least.

How long between when the check engine light came on again? I haven't had any issues since I cleared it the first time.
