I have to agree with the others that said this is almost certainly 100% on the dealer and not GM. I can say this from personal experience, I had my car die on me at the track a few weeks ago, towed to the nearest dealership (as is Chevy roadside assistance policy) which I had never dealt with before since it was almost 2hrs from my house.

Turns out it dropped a valve and the motor was TOAST (so needless to say a much bigger claim than the dead oil pump). I was TERRIFIED they would deny the warranty claim for one simple reason: I had a catch-can... Well thanks to a stand up Tech/Service Manager/whoever they didn't flag it and GM didn't push back so I got a new LT1 free of charge.

I think your case came down to they (the dealership) just didn't want to warranty the fix, and that's just terrible luck but as much as I feel bad for you in this situation you knew the potential consequences of modding the car so if I were you I'd be happy you're only stuck with a $3k repair bill vs. the over $18k it would have cost me for a replacement engine had they denied my claim. Shit happens, don't let this crappy dealer ruin your perception of GM/Chevy/Camaro as a whole.

Sounds like your dealer touched you pretty good man. I'm sorry to hear it. My un-modded 16 2ss has made it past 40,000mi with no issues. I am by no means saying that the oil cooler did it, but I am saying the reason I don't modify my cars that have warranties past an axel is this exact reason. Dealerships will just say "OPE HE HAS MODS HE CAUSED IT" and then your done. At the end of the day, that dealer has more money to fight you with than you do. So pick your battles wisely. I would've taken it straight to the GM and asked him/her and the service manager to prove how your Oil Cooler caused this issue?

(On a side note, has the oil cooler been flow checked? Does it cause any extra pressure on the oil pump? If so maybe that is your cause. If it has been then show them the data from wherever you can and escalate. Just my $.02)
