Looking for a Camaro 2SS to buy
Hey all, looking for a Camaro, 2018-2020 used. I wanted to get input on a couple things
1. How much difference does the camera rear view mirror make in the 2019+? 2. Is the NPP dual exhaust a must? 3. Magnetic ride control - how important? This will be a weekend occasional car. Seems I can get a 2018 with low mileage for around $35k Good price? |

also, if you had to choose between the exhaust or the ride control, which is more important? Again, I'm in Sam Diego and this is a weekend/play car

There are lots of aftermarket exhausts that sound better than the stock NPP, you just lose the functionality of NPP that lets you pick quite, loud, or louder.
You can’t easily add Magnetic ride, and I’m a big fan of it. I would say get magnetic ride and you can always go aftermarket on the exhaust if you want more. |

I'm in San Diego as well...
I have a 2020 2SS with NPP & MRC (weekend, fun car), if I could only have one, I'd probably go for the exhaust... The rear view camera is great, on the 2020 it is on the antenna fin, I think the 19 is on the spoiler stanchion, I think higher is better... I think you will find more with NPP than MRC... I ordered my car so I went with both... If you don't get one with NPP you'll likely want to put aftermarket exhaust on it...

NPP isn't a must. I have it. I just want to put aftermarket exhaust on it anyway. Plus I keep it open all the time so I don't care about being able to turn it down.

Definitely MRC but NPP isn’t a necessary option. I do like NPP though and think it’s worth the extra money. It all just depends on what you want and like in a Camaro. All of us can advise you on what to get but ultimately you are the decision maker. If that 2018 SS is what you want then by all means grab it. What I want in a Camaro is different than others. I wanted a ZL1 that had a few options and just so happened in 2019 when I was looking at new 2019 SS 1LEs I saw it on Cars.com with less than 500 miles and a good price for a 2017 so I bought it. Sure am glad I didn’t let it get away but almost did by another buyer looking at it. Must haves for me would be MRC, NPP, M6 trans, Mylink/Nav and 2SS. The 2016 2SS I had before the ZL1 had these options plus 2 more.

I would not pay $35,000 for a 2018 SS. The car is 3 years old since the 2021s are out now but see if you can get the price lower if you really like it.

1. Looks cool and definitely improves the perception of rear visibility. I for one have never missed it, my mirrors are set up correctly with no blind spots and I like the auto dimming feature on the standard 2018 mirror. It's a nice to have in my opinion, but I'm sure 2019+ owners will have more info. Two potential issues with it: if you're 40+, your eyes will have problems adapting to it as you glance at and away from a screen placed so close to your face. In addition, some LED headlights will flicker intensely in the camera mirror, just like on several youtube videos. 2. If you already know you'll want an aftermarket exhaust in the short or medium term, then no, otherwise definitely, it sounds very good and the dynamic valve control is also very good to have. Aftermarket ones are typically louder (Borla ATAK, Corsa Extreme, AWE etc.). 3. It's a bit of magic, get it if you can. Not the end of the world if you find a car without MRC that is otherwise perfect. +1: Before the naysayers flood the thread about how to steer clear of the "awful" A8 transmission, if you get an auto 2018, make sure the 18-NA-355 technical service bulletin gets (or got) applied to it and the service department knows what they are doing when it comes to transmission work.

Search A8 Shudder... Lots of threads on it...
Easiest thing if you want an Auto, get a 2019+ as they have the new A10 which is a fantastic transmission...

A8 shudder. It’s a thing.
My SS got it at 20K miles. The new fluid fixed it, but I put on very few miles before getting it in. I still wasn’t going to chance it coming back & dealing with it. It was one of the reasons I traded it in. The A10 has had no such issues thus far. As for your questions, 1) I only use the camera when backing up. Mine is in the spoiler and it’s fine. During normal driving I prefer to see out back naturally. I have better focus at distance than it does. 2) I like the NPP as it offers versatility as mentioned & sounds pretty darn good as is. Non-NPP aftermarket exhausts are considerably less expensive so keep that in mind. 3) MRC is nice, but I can’t say I noticed a huge difference from not having it to having it. The price on the 18 is in the range right now since used car prices are insane. As I said in my discussion on the subject I bought my 1SS over 2yrs ago for $27.5K w/13k miles & it was only 6months old. The dealer sold my car for $32.5K w/ 21k miles. Have the dealer send you the option list or window sticker. Then go to Chevy builder site & see what a new one will cost & look around to see if you can find one with similar options any newer. Depending on in-service date the 3/36 is either almost done or done. |

Bottom line GM used the wrong type transmission fluid at the release of the A8 across the board, they finally released a fluid to correct the issue. If you read previous threads you will find if the flush is done it corrects the issue. My Colorado Z71 had the shutter problem and after the flush using the correct fluid... no issues. I wouldn’t let the fluid flush issue stop me from buying an A8.

Good luck with a A8 out of warranty. I would never touch one again.
