The name of the thread is cost of horse power so all I'm trying to do is present reasonably accurate pricing of horse power in the market. I have no reason to try to justify what I paid other than to show that it's competitive

Round 1 Kooks headers w/green cats NW 103mm TB Might Mouse Wild catch can Magnuson 2650 w/90mm pulley NGK Plugs MSD Wires Speed engineering valve covers Roto Fab Big Gulp This was 12k installed Round 2 Cam Ported TSP Heads Lifters, valve train upgrades etc TCM unlock Dyno and trans tune Total 6k installed I don’t have dyno numbers yet for round 2 as it’s not done, but typical on this package is 780rwhp. (925 crank sae) I didn’t choose to get the dsx aux low side as of yet as I don’t want another failure point. That would push it over 800rwhp, they like to stop before 800rwhp unless you have a low side upgrade. This is also on pump 93. Sunoco GT 260 100 octane is also available here and I’m sure that would push it over the 800 mark with a couple degrees of timing. I didn’t include the other mods I did like the full borla cat back etc. |

I had everything done that I thought I would want, but of course now I want just a little more - ported blower, larger TB, jms fuel pump voltage booster - just 50-75 more flywheel hp

Kooks headers with no cats $1200 Ported SC $1500 Big Gulp $500 103 TB $650 Cam kit $1500 Plugs $70 Wires $50 Methanol injection $1000 ATI $450 Lower pulley $150 Upper pulley $200 Belt $50 That’s $7320 in parts. Some of the prices are inflated and can be discounted depending on sites ordered and discounts. Add $600 for tuning and $200 for credits. You are at $8120 total. That leaves $2880 for labor. This may still not make sense to you, to which I say, oh well it’s what I paid. If you prefer to pay $15,000 for what Ive listed or even $20,000. As long as you are satisfied I’m happy for Your end results. |

JSH, I just realized that you went Hennessy. Without knowing what you paid I’m sure it’s well over what some of the real shops would have charged. Of course Hennessy has great marketing but that’s one hell of a price for a windshield sticker.

For 850-ish RWHP (give or take) you should be in the $14K to $20K range depending on the shop. Different shops will have different labor rates and that is where most of the price differences come into play. But also, at that price range you should be getting a blower swap, cam swap, ported heads, LTs, dyno tune, and upgraded fueling. Maybe not an entire fuel system but definitely enough to safely run pump gas.
Personally I am not a fan of the stock blowers being modified. I think they are wonderful for a stock-ish ZL1 (catback and CAI). But outside of that I personally would not waste money with porting and pulleying. I'd say right now the best bang is going with a 2650 or Whipple 2.9, cam, and heads. Sure it is expensive. But you'll save money in the long run vs doing all these little things and then not being satisfied and having to do extra stuff. |

Matt’s a great tuner but you are much better off getting to him through another shop. He is really busy tuning tons of cars for multiple shops. |

Honestly, i would leave it as it is. Then i would save for a 2650, or whatever else comes along in the future. Add a low side AUX and you'll be close to 850wheel. I just don't think pulling off the sc, porting and what not is worth the money for you now. Better off saving for a 2650, and a TB then. |

I paid $22k which includes one round trip haul and 2 year warranty on any parts they touched. In June, a Denver Houston roundtrip haul was $2400 and it's impossible to price this warranty but I'll use ~$2000 for now. If for example I drop one of their new valves, which could possibly destroy a piston or the short block, the cost of repair could be a ton and they would pay. A new short block is $10,000. So, $19,600 minus the warranty say $17,500 base price. But they've actually paid for 2 round trip hauls so far, so $17,500 should be reduced. The other shops did not offer a haul price

Glad to see nothings changed over there @ Henessey. You basically paid 10k for a warranty. |
