This may be a dumb question. But I've owned numerous supercharged cars. Every car's respective forum talks about catch cans. If these cars really needed them, why haven't they been engineered into any? My 03 Cobra had over 100k miles when I sold it. The car was heavily modded on stock blower. I had that blower off many times and yes there was traces of oil in the blower and intercooler bricks, but I never experienced any issues from it.

I think your Cobra was port injected while the ZL1 is direct injected. On port injection the fuel hits the tops of the piston which helps wash the oil off the piston. DI shots the fuel right into the cylinder so the only thing hitting the top of the pistons is oil (air too) introduced by the factory PCV valve. The issue with DI is not the fact that oil goes through the SC, it is that the pistons get build up and do not seat properly once the gunk builds up causing power loss. I don't know why the factory does not make a factory CC but most of us assume it because it would be one more serviceable item.

I think that it's part of protective measure for the blower and valve, if not then manufacture will find a solution for it.
And the amount of oil is not noticeable otherwise a trace of smoke.

As TDS previously stated, with a DI you don't get the benefit of detergents in gasoline cleaning the intake plenum and valves. The oil also gums up the intercoolers and you lose some cooling effect over time (as air is compressed it also gets hot). On the intake valves the oil "cokes" up on the valve and reduces the efficiency of flow into the cylinder. The only way to clean this coking is to pull the blower and physically remove it abrasive tools, usually a spinning wire brush to clean the intake valves.

This build up occurs over time and will reduce the amount of power the engine is capable of making. The LT5 will address this because on the high end (WOT?) it will use port injection to increase fuel introduction and in turn clean the S/C and valves.

I installed the NX supercharger lid last week. It is a billet lid with 100% smooth interior. Based on the insane blower whine that I have after the lid swap, I would venture to guess that that piece is 100% for sound insulation and control.

With just a lid swap, the blower whine got 5 times or more louder..............

May be a dumb question but I haven't been following it and kinda too lazy to do my own research but is the NX lid just a bolt on replacement requiring no supporting parts? And does it improve anything other than making the blower louder/option of plumbing for NOS/Meth? Air flow? Cooling? HP?
