A buddy of mine in the fire service is a retired GM employee. He always says to use him when purchasing a car for his discount. Is it a dealer option to allow for the ZL1 purchase?

My dealer stated it's not available... I think he's bs'ing me.

Yes. The dealer doesn't have to participate if they choose not to. I don't see why they wouldn't do it, but I've heard many say their dealer won't. The discount comes from GM, not the dealer, so it doesn't make sense to me why they would opt out.

The two dealers I contacted when buying my ZL1 would not honor the Supplier Discount. Like you, I thought the discount came from GM so I couldn't understand why they wouldn't honor it. Maybe GM only picks up a percentage of the discount and the dealer eats the rest. Only speculating...

Right. According to the GM site, the dealer is reimbursed the discount, at least on in-stock inventory. A friend of mine is a manager at my local chevy dealer and he made it sound like the discount comes directly off of the invoice on ordered vehicles. I didn't specifically ask him the details but we were talking about supplier pricing that I can get through work, and he said "that's great, because that comes straight off the invoice, so you don't have to fight for that discount". I'm sure Becky or someone else who deals with these things can confirm or correct.

I may be on to something regarding the dealer only being reimbursed for a portion of the discount. From the article:

Can you negotiate a better price?

Yes, you may be able to negotiate a better price on your own outside of the program in competitive markets.

However, you won't be able to negotiate actual Supplier Pricing because of strict rules in place since dealers are compensated with a predetermined amount for each unit sold.

Looking for the lowest price? You may want to request quotes from multiple dealers in advance to get a sense of real-world market pricing.

My sister in law got me family discount pricing on my ZL1. Saved me $5,150.00. My dealer did not have any issue with it. Which surprised me because the one they received a ZL1 prior to mine and they added a 5K ADM. Someone walked in and paid it.
