Used Mobil 1 but not dexos approved

Hi Zl1 owners

I realized after my oil change I possibly used a non dexros approved oil. It's mobile 1 full synthetic 10-30 extended miles. My intentioin was to purchase 5w-30 dexros approved full synthetic.
I bought three 5 quart containers. A week later noticed the extra one I bought was not the right one. The other 2 containers MAY be correct. Walmart. They don't always stock their items correctly. Still my fault. Service shop can't confirm. Discarded Walmart receipt. Should I change oil to be on safe side? Thanks for any suggestions.

There is no oil police, you'll be fine .....just use up what you have. People get entirely too paranoid about this oil thing.

You would need to document the oil change to keep warranty I believe. Only if there is a motor problem of course.

What makes you think it's not Dexos approved??

When in doubt, you should be able to look it up here.

There are some mobile 1 motor oils where the dexos 1 or 2 label is not on the container. No mention of dexos in the product description on back of container.

If the oil is dexos approved it will possess the dexos logo. Mobil would not pay for the licensing/approval and not use the logo. Sounds like you bought at least one approved jug and at least one that isn't approved.

To each their own regarding "meets expectations/recommended for" vs. approved.

If you're nervous about it, or have doubts about warranty issues, drain and refill...problem solved. Oil is cheap insurance.

However, I'd personally be okay with another API SN (of the desired viscosity) oil being used for one interval, especially if I was driving normally (and not hard or track).

If it’s gonna keep you up at night. Change the oil again. That’s what I would do.

you will be fine...but I must ask why you would use 10w30? 5w30 for street is clearly listed in the recommendations or the new 0w40 Mobil 1 ESP. 5w40 Valvoline MST may be used as well.

When I went to the dealer for my first change. I looked at the part number for Mobil 1 on my ticket and it matched the oil they used.

My intention was 5w-30 dexos. The extra 5 qt container I bought unintentionally was 10-30 no dexos label.
Now I'm not sure if one of the other two containers of oil put in my car was the 10w-30 no dexos
