I bet the fans are the issue with the tune, because the Thermo is mechanical I'd guess. As I said, I ran without one for years in an 80's car and it ran cool (not cold) to warm all the time. Although it could have something to do with Air/fuel also, wow. This ECM thing is just overwhelming to me. So what is the best computer to plug into my new 2019 ZL1 to monitor and modify all these values. I don't really have any warranty as I'm in Thailand and there is absolutely nobody here. So I'd like to keep track of everything and understand the baseline of this car.

I'm really praying to God that everything major works correctly in this car. I'd hate to ship this back to Australia to try to enforce a major warranty issue.

Fans aren’t the “issue”. The factory ECM program expects the car to reach the OEM tstat temp of 194 within 10-15 minutes or so. When that doesn’t happen it assumes something is wrong. Changing the mechanical thermostat temp in the tune fixes that. Changing the fan profile allows you to optimize the engine coolant temps to work in conjunction with the new 160 degree tstat.

Get yourself a decent laptop and an HP Tuners MPVI2. Download the free software for it, watch some YouTube videos, and read.

is MPVI2 the best interface there is? I have ABSOLUTELY No knowledge about a current ECM, except that it seems to run everything in the car now. When I engine swapped (except for once) the cars all had distributors that contained points... So I can wrench, but I know very little about new electronics. However, I'm gonna learn. So is this the interface you believe is best and recommend?

SHOCK!!!!

Amazing.... I have a lot to learn...

The MPVI2 is the current standard that is put out by HP Tuners to work with their software. You'll need a decent laptop to connect it to (nothing crazy needed there). The MPVI2 is not expensive and is the entry point to understanding how your car works (in terms of tuning). Get after it!

Do you have your tune saved to your laptop? You'll be able to look at the table I posted above to see if that was updated when your car was tuned.

Yes. Get it connected physically, then under the VCM Editor program, select “Read”. This will let you download and save your stock program. If you really eff it up, the HP Tuners Repository has a crap ton of stock tunes from different cars, including the ZL1. So you could always pull it from there.

OK, Now I got my to do list.....Catch Can, reservior, small pulley adjustment (a little extra boost never hurt as long as I can keep enough fuel in the cylinder, I need to find this part out), flex fuel kit. Headers, green filter (or some slight airbox mod... CPU, I'm clueless, Fabricating some type of fresh air ram system, I'm at home) HP Tuners, and I think I'll be good with engine components, for a while at least. Oh yeah, the thing that started this conversation, 160 Thermo. Then I just need to pay somebody to help me Tune the car correctly. I have seen some name brand people helping others remotely. Let's see if I can get this done....

Buy a Katech 174 thermostat, keep the stock neck with the factory bypass, keep your stock tune. Done.

I will for a few months..... But I could never for long. I modded my Brand new 2002 RX-7 (the last of the 7's in Japan) after only 1 year. Can never stay stock for long.
