For the first time in over a decade I no longer own a Camaro

As the title says I had to get rid of my Camaro. I'm one of the guys who's going to lose his job when they close the GM plant in Oshawa.

I'm just trying to get ahead of that financially so I can look after my family. So I traded in my Camaro for a 2009 Pontiac Vibe with the 2.4 l and 54000 km on the clock.

And obviously cash. I'm definitely going to miss a Camaro as well as this form.

Just wanted to say thanks for all of the conversations the laughs and the help.

Hope you all continue to enjoy your Camaros their beautiful cars. Take care.

Hate to hear that, but you're doing the right thing for your family. I was laid off years ago and had a car I really enjoyed - 05 Magnum R/T. I had to sell it for a Cobalt. Hang in there. You'll get a chance to own something fun again when you land on your feet.

So are you a UAW member?
Have you already been offered transfer and you declined?
What is the current state of negotiations?

Also, I thought "laid off" still meant you got paid your salary for a year...maybe not...not sure...Good luck, again...

Had to trade my last Camaro for a family van when the last van blew an engine. Sucked but I got the Camaro of my dreams 4 years later. It will just take time.

Sorry to hear this but, there will be many more. I was in the automotive industry many years ago after the service but, found myself getting laid off every 6 mos. Decided I have to do something to change my life. It was then I decided to go into welding and went to Lincoln Welding school.

It was this change that eventually led to more tech schools and ultimately attending the Electric Power Research Institute in N.C. to study Nuclear power.

Use this time to reflect, is it time to make a change? No, it is not an easy decision to make and every ones circumstances are different. I wish you and your family all the best as you go forward.

Some great advise from Smokin16. I heard the government is going to provide financial and training assistance to those who are being affected by the plant closing. Hopefully this will be an opportunity for you to change directions and find something better to replace the position you had at GM.

Having lost a job last year at this time I truly can understand how you might feel at this time. Know that this is but a single event in your life and you will get through this with determination and effort. Best of luck to you and your family.

Good Luck I hope you find other employment very soon, I don’t know how it works in Canada but see if the employment office pays for your schooling in a different field while your collecting unemployment .

Sometimes things don't always go as planned and even know i didn't loose my job my financial status due to my retail stores not doing well i must sort of do the same. I have a lease on my 16' Camaro and its up in 2 months and after that i have to step down to something i can pay in full that's under possibly $2500. Shit went real south and my daughter, wife, family come first. It's sad that this was my favorite car i have ever driven and will miss it dearly regardless of mechanical issues i had with it. Best of luck to you things will get better and hope for the best bud!
