How are the speakers in the 1SS?

They are decent, fair amount of mid-bass just no real low end.

Hey Joe, great question!

I currently have a 1SS with the base sound system. I consider myself an enthusiast level audiophile, as I build my own analog tube amplifiers, crossovers, speaker cabinets etc. I've always preferred a neutral response to my sound systems, as I prefer to enjoy the music as close to its original recording as possible. The base system in our cars, for a car audio system, actually does a surprisingly good job at this.

However, most people prefer speakers that color the music, usually with a lot more base, and a punchy midrange.

To account for the roll off of the smaller speakers and the fact that the car does not have a sub I have the EQ set flat across the board with the exception of lowest slider for which I have it a few db higher. I find this setting perfect for how I enjoy music.

To answer your question, if you find yourself always playing around to get the music to sound right to you, then you may want to upgrade or play with the equalizer. If you are simply interested in clear, loud, accurate sound, the base system does a fairly good job at this as is.

It's not bad other then all the sound is biased towards the front. The sail panel speakers are pretty much worthless due to being set about 6-10db lower then the fronts. I am thinking about adding a set of 6x9's to the rear deck to fix this. That is pretty much what the Bose system consists of.

Worst case if i need "more loud" ill up grade to bose or something... Love my music while i drive, But another 10K for the 2SS for me wasnt worth it for speakers lmao

I have the 2SS with Bose and it's okay but not great, so if that was the only benefit you saw in the 2SS then it's definitely not worth it. I added a cheap 12" bass tube/amp combo in the trunk, right behind the rear seat, and it's vastly improved. I suspect that extra kick from behind is all you'd need with the basic system, too. I think mine is only 600w peak/300w RMS - all it needed, really. Cost me about $115 with install kit and LOC, self installed. Control tapped into wireless charger fuse, grounded under rear seat.

Are the 1ss speakers easier to replace than the Bose system? It's got to be a really nice set of speakers for me to even consider stock as an option. I always replace the speakers in my car.

They are ok playing stuff through USB. Bluetooth audio sounds like crap.

I had to set the fader rearward and toned down the eq settings otherwise I would get a headache. I plan to eventually put in Hertz HSK 165 for additional clarity. Just waiting to see how other people are wiring their systems. (1SS 1LE has no amp)

If you are an audiophile like me, they sound like complete dog sh*t. But, I didn't buy this car for the stereo, and I have no plans to upgrade it like I did in my daily driver.

The base factory system is easier to upgrade being you do not have to repin the connector for the "electronically enhanced exhaust". Gm thought is was a bright idea to pipe low frequencies through the speakers to make the exhaust sound better. If you tap into the Bose system and add a sub you will get a persistent low tone rumble unless you unplug a connector on the amp or repin it. If you simply disconnect it, then you loose all the interior chimes and turn signal tone.

Not going to lie, the speakers in my 2017 SS sound mediocre compared to the speakers in my 2016 Mustang.

But, in the end they are sufficient. I wouldn't waste money on the Bose either. If you care about audio... upgrade from base system.
