Yes I have...new and used...but on the used (my current 2015 Colorado which I bought from Wisconsin and I'm in Missouri) I was as careful as I could be.
Carfax, request vehicle maintenance history records from a dealership (does not need to be same dealership as seller as far as I know) and last but not least, was using a car buying inspection service. I used Lemon Squad (https://lemonsquad.com/) Its $150 for their standard review, so its not super cheap, but worth it in my opinion for peace of mind. They will send someone to personally inspect the vehicle, look it over, take pictures, drive it, and then they send you a detailed report and overall rating of the vehicle. I was very pleased. The only downside (aside from the extra money spent) is that it can take a few days to get it all done, so if you are chomping at the bit and hoping to pull the trigger on something ASAP, it can be concerning for that reason. If you can setup a sale and have them hold the car contingent on how the review goes, that can solve it.

I personally wouldn't buy a used car without test driving it.
My co-workers Mustang GT looks great, but it has that nasty BBQ engine ticking when the engine is cold. If I had bought his car without test driving it I would be pretty upset with myself given what's wrong with it. A new car, sure. I've done it twice.

I would pay for PPI if value of car was significant.

yes if it was CPO.that said i "drove"my salesman crazy when i bought my camaro.must have tested 4 of them, and looked at 10 others before i found the one i wanted.im picky, and some of the two and three year old camaros had dings or more miles than i wanted.finally wound up with a year old car with 8,000 miles on it that had the RS package.

Last 2 camaros ordered and purchased without a test drive. That said, I would be weary of buying a CPO or any used vehicle without a test drive and a good hard look/walk around.

Had exactly the 17 RS(new, purchased Nov. 2018) that we wanted transferred from Arkansas dealer to N MS dealer for my 16 year old son's first car. I had not driven a Camaro since my nephew's 96 Z28 SS SLP (bought new by his dad). We all love the RS and he gets many compliments on it. Back in the day ordered a 79 Z28, 84 Monte Carlo SS, and an 02 Impala LS new without any test drives. No problems with any of the four.

Absolutely. It’s all about proper research and the realistic understanding of what to expect from the vehicle of interest. The comfort level is much higher on a new vehicle. On used vehicles, I scrutinize them much more closely but, I’d still be willing to purchase it without a test drive.
